Hi. I am new here. I found this forum after searching the internet on how to wean from Cymbalta. I have been on it for, well, I don't know how long. I know over a year. It was prescribed to me by my pain management doctor to try and control pain related to injuries I sustained from a car accident. (These include a T5 fracture, nerve damage, pain, etc, etc.) The medication did nothing for my pain but it did help me to handle all the stress that we were dealing with as a family and myself from my new limitations and life changes. (The car accident occurred 5 weeks after giving birth to our first, an only, child. She was in the car with me during the accident but sustained no injuries THANK GOD!) Now that things have settled and I can confidently handle things emotionally I want off this drug. Heck if I had known this is what it would be like I never would have started.

I am on 20mg, so I obviously cannot taper down from there, there is nothing to taper too. On the medication I am up all night and always exhausted, even when I do manage to get a good night sleep. All this is not good with a young child at home. I have missed a couple of days before due to running out of my script and it was HORRIBLE. I had the worse vertigo and nausea. I felt like I was dying. So obviously I don't want to quit cold turkey.

After reading a little bit I decided that I am going to weekly reduce the amount of the medication in the capsule to slowly wean down from this med. I am going to go down 10% every week, as long as I feel good during that week. If I need to do it over a longer period I will. I counted all the little tiny balls in a capsule tonight and I am going to use that as my start number. I figure that they should be close since they are all 20mg capsules. There were 194 in one 20mg capsule. I took out 20 tonight and will do that for the next week.

Here's to hoping that it goes well and I can get off this medication. I truly don't think this medication should even be on the market. I know that some people have great results but it seems like so many people are having adverse effects from it, myself included.
