help i was on 40 mg of cymbalta for a month then 30 for one week then 20 for one week then 10 for a week and half- i stopped 6 days ago and there is a lot of symptoms i am feeling but the one that is really freaking me out is a feeling i cannot explain in my head. almost like a loud explosion went off by you and you body freaks-- like a quick blurry, dizzy out of it feeling.. i just want to make sure this is a withdrawal symptom and not something else?? i cannot belive this stuff and when i told my doctor they said after six days i should definately not be feeling anything. i know otherwise just by a quick look at the internet!!!! how can they be soo clueless.

Yes, oh my! It happened to me usually when I was just about to go to sleep, and happened in the first 2 weeks after being off of Cymbalta completely. It would freak me out because I thought something had exploded in my house, but I finally figured that my dog was still snoozing away, so I was obviously the only one hearing it.

I am over 40 days out, and it happens now rarely, and still always just when I'm about to fall asleep. Hope this helps. I'm sure you've already read some other posts here, and if not, you may want to because they will help put your mind at ease.

rene - you are not crazy, it is called by the medical profession "discontinuation syndrome". Many people can and do come off of Cymbalta with no problems, then, there are those of us that it just takes a little more time and it can be pretty uncomfortable.

Demand that your doctor listen to you, this is very real. And so I am here to tell ya' that it does happen, you aren't going crazy, you will get through this. Please, demand to be heard by your doctor, because s/he has probably not taken Cymbalta themselves they are listening to what the drug companies tell them, and Eli Lilly tells them that most discontinuation symptoms are self limiting - this is criminal.

Many people here have had their educated doctors give them just one dose of Prozac to get them over the hump.

Some notes from Dr. Ivan Goldberg
Subject: Antidepressant discontinuation reactions

The administration of a single 20 mg capsule of fluoxetine usually does the job. The withdrawal symptoms are relieved within hours and the patient goes through a slow fluoxetine withdrawal that is usually symptomless. If the individual had been on a high dose of paroxetine or venlafaxine, a second 20 mg of of fluoxetine may be needed.

And here is a post from a woman who found a new doctor the other day:
It doesn't have to be this way .........

Hello everyone.......
Great visit with the psychiatrist ! What I ( and the rest of you) have experienced is very real and avoidable . AVOIDABLE. So here is his plan. No more cymbalta....NO MORE CYMBALTA !!!!! I switch to prozac today and continue with that for 21 days ! He says I will NOT continue to experience what I have been. He did caution me that my blood pressure might drop a good bit because prozac does not elevate the BP as cymbalta does. My crazy headaches and dizziness he said are in part due to the increase in BP.
I cried. I'm so excited with the idea that I won't have to feel this way for weeks or months !
I'll continue to update........
