Will be helping my wife detox from cymbalta.

Posted 08 December 2010 - 10:11 AM

I am a 27 year old male who is currently trying to give up the evil CYM. I wish I had of come across this forum earlier as its so nice to know I am not the only one. I am suffering with alot of the same side effects as everyone else ie. major dizziness, irritability, insomnia, nightmares, brain zaps, really odd pains in my thumb, tearing up etc. etc. Anyways, I have cut it down too fast by the looks of this forum but I have done this over about 6 weeks and I am now on my fifth day cymbalta free yay! Only problem being I don't know how long I can deal with these side effects, I run a busy real estate business which is very high stress and its taking its toll on me.I guess I have 2 options do I take a step back and go back on cym and try to wean myself off slower and undo all the work (ie. misery) of the last six weeks or do I "man up" (don't mean to be sexist just an aussie expression) and stick it out. The big question is how long are these withdrawals going to hang around?

And just I side note the creater of this sight deserves a medal, as do all those who support it.

Thanks

Adam

Adam-

From my experience, those who have come off the cymbalta too quickly have had longer, and more types of w/d symptoms than those who detox slowly. Now, that being said, everyone is different, so the process differs for all. My wife detoxed from 90mg to 20mg over 6 months...... when she got to 20mg, she just stopped taking it. So far, she is "just" having body/joint pain and nausea. Some people have to separate the capsules (or) lower the dosage gradually the best way they can to minimize the w/d effects. Your body will be the best guide. If you have any psychological issues, consult your MD, as you may need some type of anti-depressant to help get off the cymbalta. Wish I knew of an easier way, but just spent two years going through this.... don't wish it on anybody (well maybe the Lily people).

Good luck!
