Hello friends ;)
I am happy to announce that I have been off Cymbalta now for about 30+ days and am feeling like myself again. I am so happy and fun loving AND I can FEEL emotions again. :D
My biggest problem though, was the weight gain while taking cymbalta. I gained 20+ lbs :x while on it and am hoping to lose some of it now that I am off. Did anyone else have this problem AND is it easier to lose the weight once you were off??? I guess I am looking for some hope. I had been trying to diet/exercise while on it and did not have much luck. I have dropped 5lbs easier the last couple weeks than I EVER have before, but I just want to know if it will come off as easy as it went on while taking the medication. UGH.
Looking for your thoughts...thanks
:P

trisarde - Thanks for your success story in coming off of Cymbalta - your story will help people who find it in the future! Welcome back to feeling like yourself again!

Hope your weight comes off soon, as with withdrawal, weight loss is very individual. You lost 5 lbs already and are off of Cymbalta - Celebrate! Exercise and keep up healthy eating habits - it only gets better from where you are now! ;) :P

I am interested in the answer to this as well.

I initially lost weight while on Cymbalta, but then later gained lots of weight. 60 or 70 pounds worth. I have been Cymbalta-free for 3 weeks. I feel like I have gained some more since then. I am hoping for that to change. Starting tomorrow, I am drinking much more water and journaling my food. I would like to exercise, but don't yet have any energy. I try to do what I can.

Whether being off of the Cymbalta brings the weight off or not, I'm glad to be off of it.

i have gained about 30 pounds since taking Cymbalta for a year and a half. I've worked out, dieted, seen personal trainers and lost at the most 8 pounds. I have never in my life had a harder time losing weight. I am currently doing the Atkins diet since I've had great success with that years ago. However even that isn't showing the level of results it used to. I have come to the conclusion that it has to be the Cymbalta. My doctor is taking me from 60mg to 40mg for 4-6 weeks, then 30mg for 4-6 weeks and then 20 for 4-6 weeks to 0. I hope to see better luck with the weight loss even with the reduction from 60mg to 40mg but today is only day 2 so no news yet.

New to the board, but was looking around to see if there were any discussions regarding weight gain/loss. I gained over 60 lbs in 3.5 years on Cymbalta. I asked my doctor after gaining about 35 pounds if it could be the Cymbalta and he said "no, that's not a documented side effect." I didn't know any better, so I believed him and thought my metabolism had just caught up with me. Of course this same doctor told me there were no side effects with withdrawal, and 10 days into withdrawal I'm painfully aware that wasn't true. Sigh...

Anyway, I'd like to hear from people who did in fact gain weight while taking Cymbalta. Maybe it wasn't all me after all!

Well, I'll try not to be bitter about your weight "staying the same" for 30 years! :o

I remember when my doctor first told me about Cymbalta...one of his big "selling points" was that it didn't cause weight gain in women. I remember thinking then about how trivial that was...I mean I know that's a concern, but at the time I was really suffering from depression and was just trying to get through each day, not really worried about my waist line.

Like others new to this board have said, this site has really been helpful. Just knowing that you're not the only one is so beneficial. Greybeard -- I read a lot of your knowledable posts before I went off Cymbalta and it helped me to prepare. So thank you thank you thank you.

I'm on day 12 now of withdrawal and day 3 of 10mg Prozac for a bit of help. I'm starting to feel better physically. No brain zaps today -- yippee! I think things are getting better.
