Was taking 120mg of Cymbalta for many years, now have gone cold turkey. Reading how so many other people are going through the same withdrawal symptoms as I is comforting.

Hello all, just discovered this site.

I'd been on 120mg Cymbalta for many years for anxiety when my body grew immune to it. My doctor then had me take Lyrica (25mg) with it, but that didn't work either.
A week ago he suggested I try Viibryd, and gave me a sample pack. He never mentioned anything about weaning off the Cymbalta, and now I feel many of the Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms (extremely emotional, bad panic attacks, general freaking out, etc) as well as side effects from the Viibryd. (Though I do admit it's difficult to figure out what which symptoms are attributed to what.)
Suffice to say, I feel beyond crap.
What I'm curious is, why did my doctor have me go off Cymbalta cold turkey? Seems like this is the sort of medication that's best to wean off of. Is there method in his madness?

Any advice, tips, well wishes would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I hope this all makes sense. It's really hard to focus and gather my thoughts.

Hello:
I took 60mg for 5 years. There was a period in which my dose was increased to 90mg. I found that this higher dosage didnĀ“t bring me additional benefitis, only side effects. I am not a doctor, all I can tell you is coming from such a high dosage the best thing you can do is to taper slowly.

Your not going to die from it but it could last for days and for me there was nothing to do to feel better, get comfortable or sleep. When your feeling that bad you want it to end. I caved and took a 30mg today to feel better. It was 6 hours later but amazing how I'm so much better. I'll try the slower method. At least I can get out of bed and function. Your doctor probably did not mention tapering because some doctors think if you are starting another its not necessary. Maybe for some people it is but its happened to me twice now and I rely on others more than my doctor. Good luck.
