hey there, I know I am new to the board, but i have found this to be an extremely helpful group of people... there's just one thing that i feel I HAVE to throw my two cents out there about.

NO Matter what drug you are prescribed or why... please do your OWN research... Not to say don't listen to what others have gone through or their opinions or thoughts...do indeed because it can shed light on things you might need to look at... but make sure that you have looked at a BIG variety of places to come to a conclusion. I know it isn't easy... believe me I know...

I say this because i cringe every time someone mentions that lexapro helped them through withdrawals. I want to run screaming to tell people don't take it... but I try not to. I hold that back because all I can base that on is my exsperiance... and it may help some without the damage it did to me... so I don't want to discourage people from trying something they feel will help (especially when it might!) but I don't want people to be unwarned that it can do harm too.

I guess I'm trying to say - take the time to weight the pros and cons and do what you feel best for you.... be aware of what the outcomes can be... and be prepared for the worst (that way when the best happens you can just enjoy but if not you aren't blindsided...)

I certainly am not trying to step on toes.... please please don't take this that way... I just had to get that off my chest, I know for a fact drug companies often don't tell doctors about possible side effects, and I know that sometimes they are misled, or sometimes honestly are hoping it won't do that to their patients... But an uninformed patient is the one most hurt...

Just please be careful out there!

I have mentioned how a small dose of Lexapro has helped me personally, but I am sure never to tell people to go out and take it. I always follow up my statements with one asking people to consult with their doctor about what is best for them, to help alleviate their withdrawal symptoms.

Thanks Blake, I know that for many it does work well and I hope that people consider it as an option as long as they are informed  what angers me so much is when we aren't informed by the very people who swear oaths to help people not harm them- the doctors... and I know many times they just don't have the time to do research on their own before they prescribe a drug that a rep has "promised" to work wonders... That's why I won't leave the doctor I have as quirky as he is sometimes I know for a fact he has researched- and will tell ME what he's found... Best wishes for a speedy recovery for ya Blake :D Hugs

 Nobody on this forum is a health care professional, if they were they probably wouldn't have taken cymbalta to begin with, so we are just trying to help others using our personal experience as a guide ...... which many times is more valid than anything your doctor may say...... 8-)

No disagreements here :D I think that we can be a hugely valuable source for each other... I think I perhaps should have started my original post with a bit of explanation as to how I was feeling this morning... like a dumb sheep that fell over and couldn't get back up and mostly very very angry at myself for not doing my own research... the honesty of people on this board in general, and especially when it comes to giving advice/ suggestions is one of the reasons I actually signed on instead of just reading what is here... It's hard to understand how a group of people I've never met in my life from different backgrounds and experiences has shown me to be one of the most honest and well meaning groups anywhere... and I am truly thankful for you guys!

Yes, each of us has to be their own advocate and research, that is for sure!

The people that have used Lexapro, or Celexa or Prozac and had good luck with it just wanted to share that experience, and for some, it literally pulled them back from the edge. Having had a bad experience is surely going to make your radar go up, and it is good to share that information too.

We are here for the "warm fuzzies" when someone needs it, but also to make sure that we tell it like it is. What we all want is for others not to have to deal with this demon alone.

Personally, I think Grey Beard`s advise is the best.. I also feel all humans are unique as their fingerprints are.Such as I have an aunt who says to me that NO medicine works for her except elavil. Personally, only 2 out of 10 meds have not worked for me as far as having side effect s.But I felt the side effects Quickly and I could say this isn`t for me.,, All the meds except Cymbalta,, Cymbalta has been the first drug to completly change my total character of which did not bother me too much until I was a month into the med. Then the sensations and problems began . I thought they would go away and some did. Others I did not notice except my family did. They was worried what was happening to me.Finnally I saw that Maybe something was wrong and it just wasn`t me but what I was taking.Like I said before,Cymbalta, made me a different person and not the kind medicine that is SUPPOSED to help me funtion.NEW to the site and still going off cymbalta. Will see the MD this week for my 15 min.(see if your doing ok,usually, he never sees me for 3 months at a time). Now I feel like crying, so here we go ....
