I have been taking cymbalta for muscular skeletal pain since mid July. I had taken neurontin for four years prior to the switch. I felt the neurontin was not working well for pain management and did not want to increase my dosage as I was already taking 1800 mg daily and had developed DEEP fissures in my tongue. I also felt like it took my a long time to process information on neurontin. I can think on cymbalta, but don't feel it does much for pain. I have been experiencing some side effects from the cymbalta, I think. They include: constant runny nose, coughing, chest pain, dizziness and severe headackes. My GP is weaning me off the cymbalta to see if this is really the problem. After reading the forum today, this really scares me. HELP!!

I have been on 60mgs a day for a few months now. I was on narcotics (morphine, oxy, viconden ect) for 11 yrs with little relief. I also have panic disorder and was on celexa for many years. When my new specialist prescrbed cymbalta for the pain, he told me I could scrap the celexa as thr cymbalta would also replace that. Since my second day of cymbalta, I have been pretty much pain free and it works better then my celexa did. I know the withdrawl risks but so far its been worth it. I would already experience the same symptoms people here describe when they stop cymbalta, when I had tried to stop celexa.

The problems with withdrawal from cymbalta sound like they are also experienced by most / many anti-depressants. This is the first time I've taken anything in that family. While the cymbalta didn't take care of all my pain, it did as well as the neurontin and didn't leave me slow mental processing skills. I'm pretty concerned that I will not be taking anything for pain in another five days. I haven't been without pain medication for almost five years. It sounds like you have taken a number of strong pain meds with little relief. The only one from the menu you listed that I have ever taken is oxy and that was for pain from shingles (on my face). It did absolutely nothing. The only thing that helped was steroids. I hope the cymbalta works for you and that you don't have all of the side effects that I have experienced.
