I was on Cymbalta for 2 years and 7 months to help cope with a lot of family issues and my daughters sickness. about 40 days ago I decided it was time to come off Cymbalta (With my doctors help). We took 30mg dosage to 15mg for a week, then to roughly 7.5mg for another week and off. I dealt with a lot of the same issues I have been reading about on here. Brains Zaps, frustrations and anger about nothing. It took about 4 weeks, but the zaps are gone along with my frustration.

Issue 40 days out:

I am still having anger issues, bad, almost bi-polar like where I just snap! I feel paranoia with work and am tired all the time. This drug should be FDA unapproved and pulled from the market. It is helpful, but the side effects make you rely on it for life in a sense. It has changed me in a horrible way and for that I regret having medicated myself to try and get through a hard time rather than dealing with it on my own.

I have ben speaking to my doctor and he would like to place me on Prozac for mood balancing. I have been reading up on Prozac and it sounds as bad with regards to side effects and dependancy.

Curious is anyone has not only kept the anger issue, but what have you done to help with it. I have two small children, a wonderful wife and an executive level job that has been great to me. I cannot let them suffer from this any longer.

What I have been doing over the past 40 days to help:

Quit drinking
Cardio exercise 3 times a week
Cut red meat from my diet
taking multi-vitamin pack daily

I feel horrible every day. The only time the feeling dissipates is when I am very busy with work, once I rest or try to be casual in conversation I change into this negative self I have not seen since my childhood puberty.

I have some echo like mental moments from time-to-time. Other than that the anger is my main issue.

Hi Ryan,

I'm Brian. I'm not quite at 40 days yet, but your ordeal mirrors mine exactly. I am right there with ya brother. I also heard about utilizing prozac to help get off the other crap. I have really seen the benefits just in the last couple of days. After a brief weaning and adding prozac in with the weaning, I started taking 2 prozac a day. That was too much. I now am taking one a day.

I don't want any of these meds anymore, but my anger issues were overwhelming. Not who I am. I can tell that coming off the prozac will not be as bad as the cymbalta. All of the withdrawl symptoms are becoming fewer and farther between.

I also read that fish oil caps help your brain go through the readjustment. I've been taking those every morbing and night. 1200 mg.

Good for you for not drinking. I am a drinker myself. Getting a buzz has been helping me some...

Good luck... We need it. Cymbalta sucks.

Thanks man, this stuff is brutal. I am really glad to hear that the Prozac is helping. I just started on Abilify today to help balance my mood swings. Fingers and toes crossed.
