Weaning off 30mg Cymbalta after 1 year of treatment for anxiety disorder.

Posted 01 March 2012 - 02:48 PM

Today is my first day of weaning off Cymbalta. I have been taking it for almost a year to treat an anxiety disorder and I feel fantastic, emotionally. However I am nearly 40 pounds heavier than I was a year ago, and I wasn't exactly small to start with. My doctor told me to take my 30mg pill every-other day for 2 weeks, then every 3 days for 2 weeks, then once a week for 2 weeks, then stop completely. I am planning to post my progress on this forum so that I can have a sort of "record" of my progress. We will see how it goes...

It's Day 2 of my weaning process and I woke up with some slight indigestion and my arms felt a little tingly. Both issues were minimal and mostly went away after I ate breakfast. I feel good emotionally, happy. I wish I could just quit cold turkey but I'm going to continue listening to my doctor for now and wean slowly. Let's see what the day brings!

Update: I started feeling REALLY dizzy around lunchtime. It continued for most of the day. Now it is evening and I feel normal.

I still feel pretty good. I'm even less dizzy now. Seriously wondering how awful it would be to just quit cold turkey and skip this whole weaning process.

UPDATE: After lunch I started feeling really dizzy and nauseous, and my back muscles started aching. Took some Pepto Bismol and an Aleve and laid down for a minute under my sunlamp. Felt better after a little while, but still a little uneasy.

Day 5: I actually feel great today. No dizziness, no aches or pains, and I'm in a pretty good mood. I really hope this is how it continues to go as I keep weaning. I am currently still taking 1 30mg pill every-other day. Looking forward to moving to every 3 days (and of course eventually, none at all).

Thank you for posting this. I am going to follow you daily. I think I'm going to give myself one more month before I start my own tapering. Please keep posting! :)

Day 6: I feel really tired today, worn out. Emotionally I am still pretty stable and happy. No dizziness, but I do have some slight nausea... and oh boy did I mention I am REALLY TIRED??? Ugh.

Day 7: Woke up bright and early today, a lot less tired than yesterday. Feeling pretty good, aside form some slight nausea which is totally manageable. Let's see what the day brings! :)

By the end of the day yesterday I was getting really, really dizzy. I took an Excedrin and laid down. After a restful night's sleep I am feeling pretty good. The biggest problem overall with this withdrawal seems to be the dizziness. Taking Excedrin Migraine seems to help, but I don't wanna get caught in a trap of taking a bunch of Excedrin because I tend to get jittery from the caffeine if I take it too often. I'm not as upbeat as I've been for the last couple of days, but I'm not depressed either. Just feeling kind of blank, but good.

Tomorrow is actually the first day I will officially start taking one 30mg pill every 3 days. Up until this point I have only been taking one every-other day. Thanks for keeping up with me!

Whoops forgot to post yesterday! :( I managed to avoid feeling sick or dizzy all day until evening hit and I was hanging out at home. Weird solution, though-- I turned off the heat in my house, and the spinning in my head stopped. So... maybe I was just too warm or something?? I have noticed some other people complain about hot flashes.

I feel great today. No nausea, no dizziness, and very happy emotionally. This is the best day I've had since starting the weaning process. I really, REALLY hope this keeps up. BTW I am officially taking one 30mg pill every 3 days now.

There is hope BlueFalcon, I am at day 14 of my coldturkey withdrawal from 120 mgs of Cymbalta dn the brain zaps are minimal, I am in a great mood, the pain is diminished and I am not perspiring like I have run a marathon for a change. Yesterday was great. Little to no nausea / dizziness and was very steady emotionally. Today I am feeling a little off, though. Angry for no reason, dizzy, tired, achy. One thing I have noticed overall though is that my appetite has decreased. This is great because I really need to lose weight. I'm not planning to weigh myself or start really trying to lose weight until I am completely off the Cymbalta... one thing at a time.
