I was put on Cymbalta 5 months ago for chronic body aches/ possible fibromyalgia & while I admit it helped about 50% with the pain, I have never been a fan of taking meds. My pain specialist made no mention of side effects or withdrawals. A couple weeks after starting Cymbalta I started seeing a nutritionist & biofeedback person which has helped me soooo much as far as energy, focus, digestion, mood & weight. I noticed the Cymbalta wasn't working as well after a couple months & since I was doing so well with biofeedback & supplements, I decided to wean off Cymbalta about 3 weeks ago. I was only taking 30mg/ day to begin with so the withdrawals are amazing to me. Of course my body pain has returned full force & I am having to take Ultracet at least 2x/ day to keep it tolerable, but I am also experiencing the 'brain zaps' everyone has described (I've been calling it 'head lag' but 'brain zap' is more accurate). I'm also very nauseated & even vomited once. Headaches seem worse too & I feel like I have the flu, especially in the mornings. My sleep has suffered as well. Thankfully I have not yet experienced any rage or major mood changes even though I have had a history of anxiety & depression as well. I have taken Prozac & Zoloft in the past with no problems weaning off. Frankly, I'm a little pissed the doc didn't mention any of this. I am so thankful for all the posters here providing information about their experiences. I wish I'd done more research before starting this med but I was not given much of a choice because the doc refused to give me anything stronger than Ultracet for pain. Just FYI: I started out by cutting back to 30mg every other day for about a week & a half, then I went to taking 30mg every 3rd day & about to go to every 4th day. It seems like this drug is the next big thing & docs are eager to try it out on everyone; at least that was the impression I got when I saw my doc. I would just like to know how long it will take for these effects to go away & what others have done to help with pain issues. I do have a bottle of Effexor which was prescribed briefly when I was unable to afford the Cymbalta but I'm not sure that's any better (It made me very drowsy). Also, any suggestions for discussing this with my doc? Thank you.
