I made it up to 90 mg. before I spoke with my doctor about weaning. I dropped to 60 mg. for about a month and a half. Withdrawal symptoms were barely noticeable.

Today is my third day on 30 mg. and I'm beginning to experience mouth and face "numbness". The numbness seems to happen in little episodes (maybe for a minute or two) and then its gone. I've experienced the nausea, headaches, the shakes and brain zaps that people have talked about in other postings. I also started with a mild amount of vertigo (that was fun) I have not seen anything about facial numbness, though.

I also seem to have an unpleasant "voltage" running through my body.

Has anyone else experienced face numbness or "voltage" running through you?

I'm decreasing my dose from 60mg to 30mg, been down to 30 mg from Friday. Had the face numbness and tingling yesterday now lessened but numbness now all over body. Sleep fine as been prescribed mirtazipine but until I found this website thought was having allergic reaction to something. Is there anything I can take to lessen these feelings.

Maureenanne... Have you tried to use something like Klonipin (sp)? I have a prescription, but haven't tried it yet. I will try today and let you know how I feel.

I woke up today feeling rough. It seems to be a roller coaster of a detox. Everything seems to come and go. It does, however, seem that the episodes are shorter as time goes by. So, maybe that's some good news!!

I didn't want to, but I started taking my Clonazepam this morning. I haven't been on my anti-anxiety for about a month. Let me tell you, though... it seemed to work wonders. It's really staving off the side effects; about four hours at a time, but at least it does the trick.

I woke up this morning feeling pretty good. I am taking my Clonazepam regularly. I had no problems quitting the Clonazepam cold turkey, so I'd rather go this route. I wasn't sure if I would be going to work today or not, but I don't think it's going to be a problem.

Here's hoping today goes well! I'll check back in tomorrow!!

Feeling rough and a bit disoriented this morning. Not much going on with the face buzzing or nausea. Loving the effects of the Clonazepam!!

    I'm weaning off cymbalta

Posted 04 October 2012 - 11:17 PM

Your post brought me some relief. I am 26 days off cymbalta today went cold turkey from 20mg....big mistake on my part, but i'm committed now and on saturday evening all of a sudden my lower chin on the left hand side of my face and lips felt like someone shot novocaine in them! it was crazy, then sunday i my face numbness was off and on mixed with really bad pain/pressure in my left side of the face too. monday it quieted down a bit and tuesday i went to the dr. and she said it will hopefully pass and if not, then i've developed some facial pain syndrome, but seeing your post gives me hope that it's withdrawal, just one more funky beast in this process to wreak havoc on the body. Yesterday and today the numbness has dissipated and now i just have intense pressure in my jaw/ear area which could be causing the facial pain to begin with....which i've always struggled with tmj, but the withdrawal has let the proverbial lion out of the cage in terms of tmj pain!

it's been another week and a half and the facial numbness of my lower lip and chin is still hanging on. it sucks, i've been to the dr. twice for this and she thinks maybe the trigeminal nerve is injured, but i never had anything like this before weaning off cymbalta and i had an xray yesterday to see if any nerves were being pinched in my neck to cause this and it was perfectly healthy....so i have randomized chin and lip numbness with jaw pain on the left side of my face. i would hate to think my taking this medicine could cause me to have a lifelong condition to manage. i'm pretty scared about it right now.

gsmommy.... I truly hope the effect is only temporary. I went from two weeks at 30 mg. to cold turkey. It's been 8 days and I've stopped (almost) with the pins and needles. The nausea has gone away, but I'm experiencing weird "vertigo". It's the only way I can explain it. I get sort of dizzy when I focus my eyes on something new... a little "sick" feeling.

I'm told this will all go away in time... ugh!!! In time! However, I've read where the effects last for months.

Good luck... it sounds to me like you've definitely got some kind of nerve damage. ...Related to the Cymbalta? I would definitely look into it!

just an update on my face stuff. I saw a neurologist this past week and he said it is not unheard of to have some nerve issues after coming off these medications, it also appears i've clenched my jaw into a fit which is helping cause problems in my face and teeth and in severe cases of tmj, you can have localized nerve issues. he said the level of discomfort i am having is not what is typical of trigeminal nerve pain and this will take time another few weeks to months to heal, but i should keep seeing some improvement, which i have seen some improvement. it is not gone and still flares up, but i am doing acupuncture, feldenkrais and some physical therapy. overall the cymbalta withdrawal other than my face thing is much better. I still have an occasional day when i feel like the nausea or dizziness or fatigue creep in for a stretch, but overall the worst is behind me and now i have to work on healing myself

hope everyone is surviving and well and keeping up the good fight.

I am trying once again to withdraw from crapalta.  I have been feeling numbness in my left cheek for days now.  I have also developed what I now know as Tinnitus and this I am told, does not go away.

I am so angry at having been duped into thinking this medication was safe.

Don't worry Susan the Tinnitus does go away, it takes awhile but it will go away as does the numbness in face.

Funny that as for some reason it is the left side of the face for almost everyone that talks about it.
