I was on 120 mg of cymbalta, for at least 3 years, and over time cut myself down to 60 mg,, and am on 20mg prozac. I have non-diebetic neurapathy that causes burning and numbness in my feet, which I wonder if cymbalta had something to do with, since it started months after I started on cymbalta. I am a 53 year old, overweight man that would just like to see the glass ,half full again.
My doctor told me not to cut down as this is a wonderful drug, and that perhaps more problems in my life were the cause,(such as the nearing death of my mother in a nursing home, and being beat up by my meth addicted son, and my wife of 30 years telling me that she is just not happy with me any more) were the reason. However I still sesed that cymbalta was a part of my problem.
My doctor has, through my insistance given me a different drug to help cover reality, 20 mg prozac. He told me to quit cymbalta and start prozac the next day.
Before I quit cymbalta , I had thoughts of death many times a day and worrying about the usefulness of being alive at all. Now on day 6 of prozac and no cymbalta, I have headaches, a feeling that my brain is swishing around in jello, and a very low tolerence for anything that even slightly annoys me. i truly think that cymbalta has made me forgetful, and given me a very short attention span. Sometimes when doing a mundane task I find myself to be in suspended annimation for a few minutes, such as walking up or downstairs I will hesitate after a few steps and just stand there.
I am never going to use that drug again, and do hope that the withdrawl is something that will subside over time.
Anyone just starting it should be warned that they will be entering the twilight zone.

Wow. I'm so angry with my doctor right now for not listening to me but she looks like a saint compared to yours.
I was scared to death to go from just 40mg Cymbalta to 50mg Zoloft without tapering down the Cymbalta (especially since my Doc wrote that I was taking 20mg).
That seems like a big jump to me. How are you supposed to know if the Prozac is working if you're going through withdrawal from Cymbalta. You're probably already doing this, but I would look into it on the internet, etc. The switch to Zoloft for me has been good so far (5 days).

When you're going through so much stuff in your life (extremely sorry to hear all that you have to deal with right now) you really need your brain to work.

I have the exact same memory and attention issues you described! "I find myself to be in suspended annimation for a few minutes, such as walking up or downstairs I will hesitate after a few steps and just stand there". My short term memory and long term memory are shot!

I'm glad you stuck with your gut instead of listening to the docs advise when you new better. I always print out info from the internet that I find and type up symptoms I've been having to take with me (cause I'll forget when I'm there). Keep fighting!

And remember, circumstances always change. It won't be like this forever.

Maybe it would be good to do searches on the internet for Prozac and Zoloft? Going from one drug to another overnight? Is that following the 'manufacturers' directions? It would be good to know what symptoms are from what.
