Has anyone experienced strange electrical/buzzing sounds in their head after going off Cymbalta? The buzz almost sounds like fluid passing in the back of my head. It started happening after I got off Cymbalta. I stopped taking Cymbalta on August 31 of this year. I was only taking Cymbalta for 2 months or so and went up to 90mg. Getting off Cymbalta, I took 60mg (2 capsules) for a full week, then went on 30mg (1 capsule) for another week. Afterwards, I skipped a day and then took a final 30mg dose before going off completely.

The noise is concerning because it was associated with getting off Cymbalta and a few months have passed by since then. Is this what 'brain buzzing' or 'brain zapping' is? It happens at least once every 5-10 minutes and might last a second or so. It does not hurt and I have no other noticeable symptoms other than being tired but that might be due to my depression and bad diet. I noticed the buzzing happens more when I am stressed or am hungry. I googled "buzzing in head" and found thousands of possibilities on wrongdiagnosis.com. Seeing a specialist for me costs $50 a visit so I'd like to try to understand this as much as possible before seeking a doctor.

It (appears) the sound is from the back part of my head.

If anyone is familiar with this, does this go away? If so, how long does it take to go away?

Hi Houdi,

Thanks for this helpful information. Out of curiousity, how long did this last for you? Do you recomment nutritional supplements and is there anything I should avoid such as coffee? Seems like this does not quite fit in the 'brain zap" category as there is no pain which is a good sign. Resembles a sound like Sprite sizzling briefly as someone mentioned here and I can relate to the 'whooshing' sound you described.

Thank you both for replying. I'll have to see how the supplements work and I've already essentially stopped drinking caffeine. I've thought more about the sound and what it resembles. The best way I can describe it would be a scratching sound with electrical properties. Almost like someone taking a fork to a chalk board and dragging it for 5 seconds but obviously much more quieter and electrical sounding vs metallic.

I read somewhere on here this sort of thing can be permanent? Having come off Cymbalta end of August '08 I am starting to get concerned. My assumption is this is definitely a result of nerves being damaged and some kind of brain chemical is trying to fire with difficulty. I wonder if there is some kind of medical imaging diagnostic available (or other test) that can determine if brain nerves have been damaged? If I need to go this route and also see a doctor, who do you recommend I see? I wonder if a neurologist would be helpful or just refer me to a psychologist.

Thanks for your response Greybeard. Can you suggest a recommended dose and frequency for the Omega3 supplement? Should Omega3 be all I need?

I'm also not sure about the recommended dose/frequency for the other supplements recommended on this thread?

You and everyone else responding to my inquiries/concerns here has been a huge help and I thank you for that!
