I posted on here awhile back with the title 'This works big time'.

Here is an overview (you'll have to go back and read the first one) and my update with my SUCCESS!

This Friday (April 26) will be 5 weeks since I took my last pill. I NEVER had any of the brain zaps that it seems most of the rest of you had. (the reason for that is in the previous post). The headaches and nausea are virtually gone and the the light headedness and loud noises I don't even notice anymore! The only thing I am still suffering with is something I just found out yesterday is something that may take months, years or never go away for anyone taking Cybalta or another SSRI and that is some sexual disfunction, mine being that I have no desire for sex although I am once again able to have an O. That in itself is amazing to me after all the years of suffering!

I had also been in a wheelchair for over 5 years and finally am able to walk unassisted again due to the following things I am going to share.

This is my story, my journey, my trip into hell and back and you can have the same success!

I owe this all to an amazing doctor who is highly specialized and highly sought after because of the untold thousands of people he has helped who suffer from depression, and CURES them from it, not gives them a band aid of drugs to cover up the symptoms. There are apparently a small handful of people that will not be able to get off the drugs but that is less than 20% of the people who suffer from it, and those people are never put on this terrible drug (Cymbalta) by this doctor.

I recently attended an 8 week depression recovery seminar with over 20 people from all different backgrounds and problems. The one thing we all had in common was depression. To my knowledge I was the only one suffering from withdrawal as the only other person there with meds had just started taking some drugs but quit before they had the chance to fully get into her system. In that way I suffered alone.

I had already been going on a long withdrawl process following my doctors advice (since Nov '12) before this program started so I was already very, very sick and DESPERATE when I started attending. I KNOW without a doubt if I had not implemented everything I learned I would still be on this drug and still suffering! The reason I started the journey in the first place is because I had discovered that so many things I was suffering were all side effects from this drug which I had never been told would happen, and after so many tests to find the reasons, (some were down right horrible) and no specialists were finding anything 'wrong' with me to cause all of this, and NOT ONE of them ever suggested they were side effects which they ALL were! My list of symptoms is in the first article I put in here. If you choose not to go back to read them, they are all the same things that the rest of you are suffering that I had found out when I first came to this site last November. One of them being terrible nightmares with me screaming and yelling out loud all the time (sent my poor dog crashing into the walls trying to flee). I couldn't take it anymore!

The doctor that put me on this terrible drug has since started implementing the very same things that I learned at the depression seminar, though he doesn't have all the points, he does have the most important one which is diet! He was so proud when I saw him some weeks ago to show me the things he is sharing with his patients and the diet is exactly what I had done to get me out of the wheelchair and walking again. I would still be in the wheelchair if I had not gone vegan years ago, let alone off this terrible drug!

Most people would like the easy way out like I did, by just taking a pill to get rid of problems but it doesn't work! Like weight loss, most people would rather take a pill than diet and exercise. I'm just as guilty. In this situation there is NO PILL if you want to be cured, BUT, THERE IS A CURE! If you want it you will have to make a lot of changes, and changes are not always easy, but the end result is worth more than all the money in the world can give you! I'm speaking from my own experience.

Even though I had already become vegan I was still not eating the foods that are scientifically proven crucial to the brain to prevent/deal with depression! Those same foods are the ones that prevented me from getting the brain zaps and finally getting me off of this drug for good!

I have my life back!

I am starting to do things I USED to enjoy - AGAIN!

My insomnia is going to be a thing of the past, it's that good already!

No more nightmares, yelling or screaming!

I am enjoying food again, something I didn't while I was on the drug then especially while I had the nausea!

I am able to experience O's again!

I actually want to go places and travel again!

My ability to read books enjoyably and concentrate is coming back!

I'm dealing with negative situations positively, something I couldn't do before and I'm not even finished the cognitive part of the course yet!

I already feel better than I did before I ever went on this drug!

People around me are seeing the changes!

I have HOPE!

I have a future!

I am laughing again!

I'M FREE OF THIS DRUG FOREVER!!!

Don't you want to be too? YOU CAN!

First I need to give you some facts.

"Serotonin is an important neurotransmitter in the brain, particularly in the frontal lobe. This is an area that neeeds to be vitally enhanced in depressed patients. The brain can make no serotonin unless tryptophan is first present."

"Meat in the diet blocks tryptophan flow to the brain" (that includes fish)

"Getting enough tryptophan is not the only nutritional factor in serotonin production. As stated in the previous chapter, five large amino acids compete against tryptophan in traveling to the brain... A food that contains a large total amount of these five amino acids will reduce the flow of tryptophan to the brain. Thus, if our diet is moderate in tryptophan but high in those five amino acids, we may still develop a tryptophan deficiency in the frontal lobe of the brain. The amount of tryptophan compared to the amount of the five amino acids is the CRITICAL YARDSTICK."

Animal products (including milk products!) have the high 5 amino acids that prevent you from getting the tryptophan, and you HAVE to have tryptophan to produce serotonin!

Foods highest in the tryptophan ratio are tofu, almonds and sesame seeds, sesame seeds being the highest.

Omega-3 is what prevents you from getting the brain zaps, and the highest sources are ground flax seed @ 1470 mg, chopped English walnuts @ 2043 mg,  then the king, flaxseed/linseed oil @ 7520 mg!!!

The best sources are plant based - fish has all kinds of contaminents from pollution which is severe because of bioaccumulation and biomagnification (the food chain). For example, in Clear Lake, CA that had .02 parts per million (thats 2 drops of DDD insecticide in every 100 million drops of the lake water)  it becomes a whopping 2,500 ppm - 125,000 times the concentration in the water because of biomagnification!!! I'm sure I don't need to go into the devestating affects involved with consuming insecticides, mercury etc. on the human body as that has been public knowledge for decades. Also this affects fish from every body of water around the world due to acid rain, dumping and run-off.

I gave a cookie recipe from his book in the previous posting. I never asked for permission, but because I know he has made it his life to help people with depression I'm sure he'd be thrilled that I took the time to write it out.

There are around 10 'hits' for getting depression including things like genetics, diet deficiencies, toxins and lifestyle factors. It's a sinch to hit 3 or 4 of these and bingo, you've got depression. In fact, if you get a folic acid deficiency there is NO drug out there that will even help you. Your only way to get it is through your diet.

I have a friend who went off their Cymbalta just days after I did. I am well and they're going through hell as I write this! The difference between us is our diets. This friend has done many vitamin kinds of things that I haven't. It obviously hasn't helped them because if it did they should be so much better off than I am as they were counting beads when they quit (was on a very low dose), and I had been skipping days with my minimum dose staying at the smallest dose available of 30 mg - that is what my doctor put me on and what my pharmacist advised me to stay on. On only one occasion did I remove 10 beads as I was going to try it their way. That was my second last pill, the final one was whole. If I hadn't been convinced of the diet prior to my own experience, the difference between the two of us would have done it in itself!

What is the long and short of this? First, I would never advise anyone under any condition to touch this vile and devastating drug!

Second, if you are on it, get the information I mentioned, or any other reputable kind that intensely covers diet (I'm absolutely sold on this one because I knew about it years before the program came to my city - I already knew it was incredible) BEFORE you even attempt to get off of this drug! If you were to implement everything they teach you BEFORE you started the journey to get off of it, you would spare yourself so much suffering! It's bad enough to get off this drug and many people never will be able to because they don't know how and won't be able to handle it, so why wouldn't you do everything you possibly could to make this easier AND a success?!

You can actually go to a place called Weimar Institute (google it), just outside of Sacramento California. Dr. Neil Nedley is now the president of the institute. He had an extremely successful practice in Oklahoma before Weimar hounded him for years and got him to go there. It is run by reputable doctors. They reverse heart disease, diabetes AND depression besides many other illnesses and diseases. I have wanted to go there for years but unfortunately ending up in a wheelchair because of injuries made that a financial impossibility for me. Everyone that goes there, and those who go there just for depression, get 24/7 doctor treatment for 3 weeks and all the training to get off these drugs and stay off! Even that small percentage I mentioned in the beginning experience life changing benefits with minimal drugs and will get off this evil drug if they were on it!

Here is some additional information on 2 other alternatives for depression treatment once you are off Cymbalta.

First is 5-HTP:

"...it's harder to come up with definitive evidence of 5-HTP's benefits from actual patient studies. Australian researchers Shaw and colleagues tried to do exactly this. They used a computerized database search to uncover any study ever published where either 5-HTP or tryptophan was used to treat depression. After locating 108 papers, they were disappointed to find only two met the highest standards for quality research. Although both those studies suggested 5-HTP and tryptophan provided benefit, the limited evidence left serious questions about how effective these agents really were. Similar frustrations were expressed in a recent overview of 5-HTP by Simon N. Young, PhD of Canada's McGill University. These and other experts agree: there is rationale and some scientific data suggesting 5-HTP helps depression; however, the evidence is not yet conclusive."

Second is SAMe:

"SAMe supplementation both increases neurotransmitter levels (norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin) and improves brain cell membrane fluidity. These result in significant mood and outlook improvements.
Although only available as an over-the-counter agent in the U.S. since the late 1990s, SAMe has been used extensively in Europe for some 30 years. It has amassed an impressive list of medical credentials. When problems do occur they are usually tolerable...In my experience it often takes only 400 mg a day to get good results. A number of my patients by using SAMe at this dosage, have experienced dramatic improvement in their depression.

Another noteworthy SAMe benefit is its rapidity of action.

Earlier SAMe studies were plagued by problems with the supplement's chemical stability. This has been addressed by the development of a chemically stable form known as SAMe 1,4-butanedisulfonate. Potency of this compound is maintained throuout its two year shelf life.

I find SAMe to be an excelent, well tolerated agent.

SAMe is not advised for those with a history of mania or bipolar disorder as it can trigger mania and agitation in such individuals.

It's faily expensive - expect to pay about $50.00 a month if you are taking 400 mg.

For users who discontinue they will often experience a sudden relapse of their depression."

Now for the bottom line. If you could live without taking anything and live a productive and happy life, why wouldn't you? Would it not be worth whatever you have to do to get it? For what I have been through, it's priceless! I'm feeling so good as I write this that I almost feel guilty because I know what many of you are suffering - I was there once too, and to the point of being suicidal as well!

Only you can answer this question for yourself. What is it worth to you to get your life back and FEEL GOOD like I do right now? What is it worth to you?

I have given you everything I could in a nutshell, the rest is up to you. If I could do it, you can too!!! There is a light at the end of this tunnel - I MADE IT, AND, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS DONE IT THE WAY I HAVE! Many people have succeeded this way long before I just did!  YOU CAN TOO!

Please, please, please, take this into consideration - what have you got to lose?! We only have one chance in this life, why wouldn't you want it to be the best it can be? Why would you want to be sick or keep making the pharmaceutical companies richer? Why? If you can answer that question honestly you will have answered the most important question. What is being well worth to you?

I'm FREE! - that's what it's been worth to me! All praise, honor and glory goes to God who made this all possible for me and held me up through my darkest hours, who gave Dr. Nedley his knowledge and especially his desire to help people the way that he is! You be next!

God's richest Blessings to each and everyone one of you!!!

I need help and I know I will feel better if I can offer help to others

Posted 23 April 2013 - 11:14 PM

Just to set the record straight here peeps and some food for thought.

If anyone looks at her previous post, you will see that I responded to fightingforsanity at that time and I have been messaging with her since March 9. I rather suspect that it is me that she is referring to when she said “I have a friend who went off their Cymbalta just days after I did. I am well and they're going through hell as I write this!”

I took my last Crapalta 5 or 6 days after fightingforsanity took her last one. I do still have problems which I have shared with you, but I am not taking the T&C drug combo that fightingforsanity is either. All I take is a low dose of amitriptyline 75mg which helps me with my IBS and to fall asleep (too bad it didn’t keep me asleep) and hydroxyzine 25mg. I did briefly take an anti-anxiety med but I was allergic to it and that did set me back a number of days with increased side effects.

I did look into this diet when she first mentioned it to me, but I am allergic to tree nuts with almonds and walnuts being deadly (I carry an Epi-pen because of it). The other main food sources are lentils which I also must not eat and soy. So that was as far as I got as I could not live on what remained of the diet.

Things were not as easy as fightingforsanity would like you to believe unless she has not been telling me the truth during these last 6 ½ weeks. As she said above “I had already been going on a long withdrawl process following my doctors advice (since Nov '12)” which we know results in less withdrawal side effects.

Now as always I do not want anyone to think that I am saying that this diet is wrong, I just ask you to please research her information yourself and not to make any rash decisions regarding this diet.

I will be the first to say that some of her ideas did sound reasonable so I did some research and while doing that research I found many things that have helped me, which I have been more than happy to share on the site.

To get some of this on a more level playing field for you I pulled up the following information (I am unemployable techo geek after all):

Tryptophan is one of the 10 essential amino acids that the body uses to synthesize the proteins it needs. It's well-known for its role in the production of nervous system messengers, especially those related to relaxation, restfulness, and sleep.

Foods highest in Tryptophan

(based on levels per 200-Calorie serving)

Sea lion, stellar, meat with fat (Alaska Native) Tryptophan: 1322mg

Game meat, elk, cooked, roasted Tryptophan: 746mg

Seaweed, spirulina, raw Tryptophan: 739mg

halibut, cooked, with skin (Alaska Native) Tryptophan: 593mg

lobster, northern, cooked, moist heat Tryptophan: 582mg

Seeds, flaxseed Tryptophan: 111mg

Nuts, walnuts, black, dried Tryptophan: 103mg

The list is 20 pages long complete with meat, fish, poultry, veggies, seeds, nuts, etc. so here's the link to find out where your favorite food is.

Foods highest in Total Omega-3 fatty acids

(based on levels per 200-Calorie serving)

1 - Flaxseed oil Total Omega-3 fatty acids: 12059mg

2 - Seeds, flaxseed Total Omega-3 fatty acids: 8543mg

3 - Fish oil, salmon Total Omega-3 fatty acids: 7828mg

I buy the purified salmon oil ones myself as it is easiest for the body to absorb and highest in EPA and DHA which are why we need omega 3 (per the Mayo Clinic)

Some of you may have read my posting about 5 HTP which I researched all the pros and cons and left it for each of you to make your own choice. Just to note, 5-HTP is derived from the amino acid tryptophan which is present in most protein foods. If you get enough tryptophan you do not need 5-HTP.

“SAMe is not advised for those with a history of mania or bipolar disorder as it can trigger mania and agitation in such individuals”

People with bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and other psychiatric conditions should only use SAMe under the supervision of their healthcare provider. SAMe has been associated with hypomania and mania.

The most common side effects are digestive complaints, particularly nausea. Other side effects include skin rash, lowered blood sugar, dry mouth, blood in the stool, thirst, increased urination, headache, hyperactivity, anxiety and insomnia. People with Parkinson's disease should avoid SAM-e.

That just makes me want to run out and buy it.................... NOT

Sorry just a little of my sarcasm coming out here.

So take what you like, research it or have someone research it for you and most importantly ........

Take care of you, because I care

Nancy
