Hi All

I have been taking Cymbalta for the past 1 1/2 years

I have been getting samples from my Dr because I have no insurance.

The dr is no longer getting samples so I have no supply of Cymbalta left.

It has been 3 days and I am lost, Sick is part of it Nausea and complete exhustion.

I have also been like an Air head, dizzy and floating around like I am drunk.

Please advise if there is anything I can do.

I would perfer not to get back on the Cymbalta if possible

Thanks for you help in advance

Rockinron

Hi rockinron, you are going to feel bad for a few days): I quit taking 60 mg cold turkey and today is day 14 and I am just starting to feel normal. Take omega 3, drinking lots of water! So much water that you are running to the bathroom every hour. There is no easy way when you are forced to quit cold turkey. It does get easier around day 7. You will still feel bad but you will be thinking much clearer. Ladynancy on here has some good advice. Look her up. She replies to almost every post. Good luck, sleep when you can and get those Omega 3 vitiams.

Hello rockinron

Your doctor should have told you that he was running low on samples the last time he/she gave them to you. Not fair to you that he didn't. Did he offer any other drug to get you through stopping Crapalta (cymbalta)?

Like Crazychic says - Drink lots and lots of water. You can get through this.

Essential Supplements

Omega 3 - 2000mg twice a day

Vitamin B complex, Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc OR a high potency or prenatal vitamin/mineral supplement

L-theanine (suntheanine) 200mg up to 3 times a day with water on an empty stomach

Fruits and veggies are important to help the liver to function at its best to rid the body of these toxins.

Fruits - bananas, oranges, pineapple

Veggies - asparagus, broccoli, swiss chard, green beans, spinach, cauliflower

Nuts and seeds - pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, walnuts, peanuts and peanut butter

Just a general list to help you get started on healing.

We are here for you. Let us know how you are doing.

Take care

Thanks so much for the replys.

I have been reading the board and there is a wealth of great information here.

I can't blame my Dr he was as surprised as I was that he wasn't getting any more Cymbalta.

I haven't been able to afford to go to my Dr in the last 6 months.

My Dr is not aware of my running out of Cymbalta and quitting.

I am not wanting to get on ANY other medication at this time.

I have been diagnosed with Bi Polar II which I take Lamictal (generic Lammotrigine)

I am also an Insulin Dependent Diabetic.

Any advise on what I should tell my employer.  I am way underperforming at my job and am worried about losing it.

Thanks again for the advice

Ron

I'm not saying you need to take another med, but sometimes it is needed to get off the Crapalta as the side effects can be very rough in the first 2 weeks or so.

I don't know if you or your doctor are aware that this drug is not advise for people with Bipolar Disorder. You may have some issues with your Bipolar when discontinuing. I don't want to alarm you but feel you should be prepared as this drug can cause rapid cycling for bipolar people while on it or when discontinuing. It can be rather alarming when it happens when you don't know what is going on. Trust me on this one, I know.

You should just tell your employer that you had a reaction to a med that the doctor gave you and that it will take about a week to 10 days for the side effects will settle down. Best be as honest as possible.

Take care

I have been off for 43 days now - still having issues from being on Crapalta although most of the side effects of stopping are gone or minimal.

How are you doing?

It's the weirdest thing how we all count the days! Guess its like our strength builder "one more day away from the poison"

Exactly LOL

It is also a goal. The first 7 to 10 days are the hardest then we count up to 14 to 18 days off because we know we will start noticing the big improvements then. And it goes on from there.

For some 4 weeks (28 days) and they feel great with only the odd random side effects; for others it is 6 weeks (42 days). Six weeks is also the point that if you were waiting to start certain other types of treatment it is safe to do so.

Then there is the group who struggle through to 12 weeks before they finally feel free of this poison. There is another group after that but I don't want to think about that right now.

I made myself a diary on my computer so that I could track how I felt at the beginning and end of each day. It helps to look back when I am having a bad day and see that I am making progress.

Keep counting those days :)

I was tired and sleepy most of the day and then couldn't sleep at night so I understand how you feel.

You will feel tired for the first 10 to 14 days because of the dizziness and all the other wonderfully crappy Cymptoms.

Hang in there you can do it.

I have a calendar in my room, that I mark each week off Cymbalta in red massive letters- makes me very satisfied to do this each time!

Sometimes I am ok and sometimes I want to kill things. Lots of crying and feeling desperate. Lots of sweats. But...there are some clear times too. Little afraid the crazy side is the real me. Annnnd other than that just great ! Lol. If I can get out of here I am going to try those supplements you recommend.
So are you back to square now ? Or still have problems from this drug.

I am beginning to think that most of the problems I have now were caused by taking Crapalta and hoping that they will diminish with time. There are a few lingering side effects from stopping like the occassional zap when tired and the insomnia.

At this point not sure if the anxiety is from taking it or stopping it so time will tell there. I did have very mild social anxiety before but nothing that kept me home. Now I don't go anywhere without hubbie. That is rather strange for me as I was a self supporting single parent for many years and didn't have or need anyone to lean on.

I should never been given Crapalta  and had the Moron doctor properly tested me prior to prescribing it, he would have known that. Of course now he wants me to take more drugs to correct these other problems. I had an allergic reaction to the first one he decided I needed to take so at least I have been able to give a good reason for not starting multiple drugs like he wants me to. This guy loves to write prescriptions.

Time will tell as to how this works out and I will keep posting updates on myself until such time as I truly feel free of Crapalta and its Cymptoms.

Take care of you Jones

You may need some OTC for the nausea which will also help with the dizziness.

Drink lots of water.

Hang in there you can do it.

Hi Ron

Pinched nerve is rough and would definitely distract you.

You won't want to move your head too fast now so that may save you from some brain zaps.

Take care

Day 18: today has been okay, I have had some brain zaps ): wish those would go away. I worked 10 hours today and I'm not feeling to bad! I have noticed that when I'm tired I get these strange noises in my ears kinda like whooa, whooa it's so bad that I can hardly hear. Anyone else have this? What could be? Maybe a symptom maybe not...hope everyone is hanging in there.

Way to go Crazychic you are doing so great.

Yes I have had those noises that make it hard to hear as well when I was tired. It has gone away now. It seems once you reach a certain point you only get side effects when tired. The balance is being restored in the brain but has no reserves yet so Cymptoms still happen then.

The water and omega 3 seems to be necessary still to reduce brain zaps.

Take care

Thanks Nancy (:
Day 19 worked another 10 hour shift today, not feeling as good today as I did yesterday ): these horrid brain zaps are really getting to me! I have had a headache all day. Just a not so good day. I'm sooo much better than I was though. I've came a long way in 19 days. I am ready for all of this to be over! Just gotta keep going, maybe next week will be better!

Day 20, I am home from work and ready for my day off tomorrow!! I have been exhausted. The brain zaps are still haunting me but they are not as often, I am still getting headaches through the day but I'm sleeping better, my appetite is better and I'm laughing!!! Been too long since I've had a laugh that make my tummy hurt! So I think I'm inside here, under all this mess.

So glad to hear that you are sleeping better. That makes all the difference in the world.

I'm trying to type with one hand this evening and doing better than I thought I would lol.

Enjoy your day off, you have really earned it this week.

Take care of you
