I've been trying to wean off of this nightmare drug for 4 months. I'm now down to 20 mg per day... and I'm feeling the effects.

I have:

tingling in my hands, feet, legs feel weak, horrible headaches, awful mood swings, I'm extremely tired and lethargic. Not to mention the 80 plus lbs I gained while on it...

It was ok when I went down from 30 to 20, but now it's sucking again. I almsot want to cave in and just stay on it. Rehab is not realistic for me, but it has crossed my mind.

I've been on everything and I thought that effexor was bad.... this makes effexor seem like kindergarten. WHY IS THIS DRUG PRESCRIBED. I THINK IT'S PROBABLY WORSE THAN CRACK.

Wow. Thanks for letting me vent. I'll take any advice i can get here and am so happy to see this board.

Dear CJ,

I feel for you. You are the only person who can decide what is best for you, along with help from your doctor.

But I can say that today is one of the first days I don't feel like dog-poo. The first two weeks were the hardest. Last week was pretty tough as well, but I finally feel like smiling again.

I am on day 38 w/o Cymbalta, and I feel really cold all of the time. two pairs of socks, two sweaters, man do I ever feel cold. I hope and pray that once I get a few more weeks under my belt, that I will be back to whatever my self is now.

My best wishes to you for this is not an easy road. You are not on this road alone.

CJ,

Talked to my shrink yesterday and told him how I feel 50/50, meaning, 50% of the time, I feel as if quitting Cymbalta was the right decision only half the time, the other half of the time, I am freaking out a little bit because my brain was not this confused and cloudy before I started Cymbalta. This is pretty scary to me as I am self employed and functioning well is directly connected to my income!!

Realizing that I may be one of those people who does need medication, I am not going to spout that people should not take anti-depressants. Cymbalta did help me for about a year. But the past two years I have noticed that I had become very complacent and would give up my own joy to pacify others more than usual.

That being said, my shrink in January wanted to put me on an anti-seizure med in addition to the Cymbalta to help with the "down" feeling I had. So, after a year of my telling the shrink that the Cymbalta was NOT WORKING he never once suggested that I take a "holiday" from the medicine or to try another anti-depressant. Which was the point where I realized that while I was depressed before Cymbalta, I was a little better off than I was over Dec and January. Hence, I did decide that it was time to see how I would fare off of the drug.

I hope that you are feeling well today. It is day 40 and I feel better each day. And I am hoping that everybody else out there is feeling well and healthy today. It is a new day.....

Hi there.

I just wanted to say hello and I hope you feel better soon.

I am in my second week of 30 mgs after being on 60 for a few years. I read a lot of good info on The Road Back dot org.

I think what is helping me is the vitamins I am taking. And I drink a bottle of Triple XXX Vitamin Water every day and tons of regular water, about 132oz. I already take evening primrose oil for PMS, and have added vitamin E, an omega fish oil, vitamin D, zinc magnesium and a regular multi vitamin for women.

The first couple of days I had some brain zaps and a little dizziness and a headache, but nothing terrible. So far the withdrawal has been manageable. I just hope it continues this way as i titrate to 15mg.
