Hi Vtybee- First off- you are not alone. I've felt what you feel now, and so have many others on this forum. It's a confusing and confounding place to be, but there is daylight at the other side! It gets better, and you will find gentle people here who will tell you the truth.

If you wish to stay cold turkey, you could have some challenging weeks ahead of you- perhaps 4-6 weeks of difficulty before it lightens up. But everybody is different, and it could go easier than that. But it's important not to underplay how rough it could get. But know that many have gone before you and have successfully weathered the cold turkey storm. Post your progress here, and you will receive valuable feedback daily.

You may wish to re-instate the drug to the dosage you were taking before you quit. Stay there for a week or two until you feel stable enough to begin weaning off. Many people wean off over periods varying from 2-3 months.

One method is to reduce by 1% per day over 100 days. Day one take out 1% of the beads; day two take out 2% of the beads; day three take out 3% of the beads and so on to 100 days. Listen to your body and if symptoms get rough, stop reducing and stay at the current dosage for a few days (or even back up a few beads) until you feel stable enough to continue reducing.

If you need extra empty capsules, you can buy them at the pharmacy or the health food store. For a 100-day taper, you will need 50 capsules of medicine and 50 empty gel caps (100 capsules in total).

Eli Lilly does not recommend cold turkey. They say taper off slowly. Taper off in a linear fashion, with no steps or omissions.

Best wishes. You can do this.

Welcome to the Cymbalta forum. Glad that you're here w/us. I am in the process of slowly weaning off Cymbalta. I am doing the bead counting method. That is what is working for me. I couldn't do the cold turkey method.
