any advice on how to break up with your pdoc? i was already in counseling wth a therapist who finally recommended i needed meds and told me to start with my GP. i was first "assigned" to the pdoc in 1996 after walking into the ER on the advice of my GP - said that's the best way to get in a quick appt with a pdoc. geesh! they wanted to lock me up for three days. it took my husband and my GP over the phone to let the ER know i just needed a pdoc asap - no need to "baker act" me. so they let me go home with a next day appt. back then it was a 'scrip for zoloft. i didn't know any better so i've stuck it out with him ever since. i found an even better therapist who i've worked with for ten years and have now realized i don't need the c'balta or any other anti-d anymore.  my pdoc is one of these "for the rest of your life" kinda guys when it comes to meds - he thinks if i'm not on one i should be on another. however he has given his blessing to me weaning off cymbalta. it will be 6 weeks tomorrow totally cymbalta free. i don't think i can be honest wth my pdoc about the withdrawal process. i want him to know about my mental and physical state so he knows how awful this drug is, but i know he'll just tell me i need to be on an anti-d the rest of my life. i think he believes the pretty young things that hawk for big pharma more than his patients.

I have changed pdocs 3 times. If they don't want to work WITH me then I can't work with them. I usually just call in the front desk and inform them I will NOT be seeing that dr again. I usually get a recommendation from my psychologist and try again.

Five: well except for those three thing its just like that ;-)

Hat: i've been seeing this guy for 18 friggin' years! but, really why should i care about his feelings? its not like he has respect for mine. when i first started ramping down cymbalta and told him the withdrawal gave me the runs he said i should get a colonoscopy. really? an incredibly invasive procedure that requires anesthesia because i had diarrhea. i couldn't believe it!

There must be at least 50 ways to leave your pdoc.

"You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free"

I didn't know where to post this & haven't even researched it yet so hope it's interesting to someone .
My doctor has just spent two years studding this & said I would be interested in it .. I'm not in the right frame of mind yet but intend to have a look ASAP ...
Not sure if the spelling is right ... SENSORY MOTOR PSYCHOTHERAPY ..
Two names associated with the work are ... Dr Jenina Fisher & Dr Pat Ogden ...
Let me know if you like it or if it's interesting ..:-)

Here's the site in Australia. I'm just reading about it now- it's fascinating!

Just read a little more. There was a person who posted about this some weeks ago; I'll look it up. The report was very favourable as i recall. This therapy represents a kind of short-cut in the psychotherapeutic process- it claims faster results than traditional talk-therapy. It is certainly worth investigating, and a short trial might answer a few questions and prove to be beneficial. It's supposed to be effective with anxiety and PTSD.
