My 12 year old son is weaning off of cymbalta after being on 60mg. for 5 weeks. He is slowly switching to Welbutrin. What can we expect during this time period? He hasn't told us anything, but seems irritable and was somewhat aggressive with my husband tonight, this is unlike him. I'm worried after reading many of your posts, and the doctor never mentioned problems with him switching over. (He is taking 30mg. of cymbalta with 1 welbutrin pill for a week and then he will drop the cymbalta completely for 2 welbutrin pills.)

I feel your pain. I think our doctors are informed becuase they are hearing what the drug companies want them to hear. It appears as though the patients need to share their experiences if they are to have a real world view of this and, probably, many other drugs.
You may want to read my posting "Cymbalta Withdrawal" in which I describe my own symtoms but also discuss my duaghter. If I could turn the clock back, I would not just lay down and accept the doctor's treatment plan. I do not pretend to be an authority on anything other than the journey I have taken with my daughter and it has been such a painful one for our whole family. I am also not aware of your your son's situations. HOwever, I do urge you to seek whatever alternative means you can find to treat your son. And offer my ear, at any time you need someone to talk to.
Best wishes.

I switched from Wellbutrin to cymbalta in August as I had a seizure on Wellbutrin--UGH!! Anyway I had the dizzy, brain fuzzy, sad, irritable feelings for a week but was fine. The days I tapered down on one but didnt' have the other SUCKED. But when I had both meds I was better and then onto Cymbalta was okay ish although now as I am going off it I can tell that I had brain fuzzies all along. I thought it was the depression but I think it was the cymbalta. Every day at 3pm I would fall apart, can't hold my head up, anxious, pain, like a storm going on in my head. So kudos to you mom for asking for info for your kid. Its gonna be hard, but I liked Wellbutrin better, felt happier for sure. Seizure only side effect for 1% of population. lucky me. So since I did it your kid doesnt' have to do it okay? hee hee
