Amazing stuff I learn from you guys ... started out with Cymbalta, now I'm learning about birds, their habitat and migratory patterns ... :)

5 months on cymbalta, scary side effects, to get help and to return the favor if I can.

My Peterson guide to the birds says that the permanent range of the Cardinal extends to thte US Canadian border but that Cardinals are a frequent visitor to southern Canada during summer.

Translated in French, this would mean that they have left my region and won't be back till next spring??

Well, now I'm confused ... I grew up in northern New York State ... near the Adirondacks ... we had cardinals all winter long ... my mother fed them, and we loved to watch them ... the contrast of their red against the snow .... did we have "renegade" cardinals? Cardinals who couldn't afford to fly the rest of the way south?

You are probably right Gail.

FN, they are permanent residents in the US all the way to the Canadian border (that includes New York lol). Those in Canada however usually head out before winter.

They sure left early, can't blame them with the winters we get here.
I would do the same!
I sure miss them, so often they made me smile with their whistling.

Will have to settle for the pigeons!

Cymbalta has been a nightmare, I need some answers and shared experiences.

Posted 30 September 2014 - 03:01 AM

Hello peoples.

I hope you are all doing well.

Roughly 4 months since quitting Cymbalta and things are a bit of a disaster. I seem to have constant, untreatable epigastric pain and nausea, have lost a lot of weight (since eating is difficult) and now my hormones have gone into a spin. I have very debilitating fatigue.

Going in for a endoscopy soon - but a preliminary glance down my throat by an ENT came up with nothing - so it looks like a neuropathic pain problem.

Also booked to see a rheumatologist soon - looks like fibro has fired up big time.

Am working hard (ironically) at mindfullness to stop myself spiralling into depression again.

Has any one else been left with long standing stomach issues after quitting?

Very sad as I had such high hopes - can't ascertain whether the stomach prob is a legacy of Cymbalta or if it was a latent problem waiting to emerge. I didnt have it prior to taking the drug.

Honestly - Im climbing the walls... I would almost go back on to Cymbalata at this point if it gave any relief.

:(  Body transplant please!

antacids do nothing. Only Valium damps it down - and I dont want a Valium habit!

AM, oh, how wonderful to have you back for a visit .... and oh, how awful, that this is what has brought you back ... I am so sorry!

Even though it seems like an eternity (at least it did to me back at that point) ... 4 months isn't very long off the poison, and there are still huge changes/adjustments happening in the brain ... it's still working to rewire itself and to heal ... to learn to moderate it's own serotonin level ... without the artificial help of crapalta ...

Serotonin is involved in every single key bodily function ... because it's one of the most, if not the most important neurotransmitters in the brain.

So yes, all that you are experiencing could well be, likely is, due to crapalta ... actually, due to your brain, as I said, struggling to learn to function without the artificial boost provided by the drug ....

4-5 months off it, for a lot of us, is right at a turning point ... there are often still huge physical symptoms/issues ... and each one of us is different as to what "little gift" we get at that point ... mine, for example, was the optic neuritis ... that incapacitated me almost totally because it was so painful ...

If it will make you feel more certain, and reassure you that you haven't developed some new condition, separate from crapalta ... yes, go for those tests. Lots of us here have had lots of tests for lots of stuff, and made lots of ER visits ... but come up with no new diagnosis ....

The stomach issues have been discussed here by at least a couple of others ... Gail? Brzghoff? I can't recall now ... but they'll arrive in a few hours (US time) and will be able to help .... as will those here who know about fibro ...

I've got to get back to bed, was up just for one of my little bathroom runs during the night, so I can't do this ... but, why don't you ... search the entire site, from the box in the upper right of the home page, for keywords like stomach ... epigastric ... etc ... there should be previous discussions in the archives ...

Hang in there ... no body transplants available, but your own body is going to be just fine ... it needs still more time ... 4 months isn't enuf for it to get itself normalized ...

Also, stay here regularly for a while ... we'll help you get through this particular phase ... I have to work today (yep, got a 2 day a week gig, and it's exhausting but so good to be able to start re-entering the "outside world" ...) but as soon as I get home tonight I'll do some archive searching for you, and some research .... I'll post whatever I find here for you ....

Another quick thought ... have you tried taking tryptophan pills for a bit of a serotonin boost? It's carried in most vitamin shops ... BUT if you do this, start at very low doses ... 50 mg or so ... and be careful ... you can increase gradually over a week or so ... but these aminos are strong ... must be used with care ... research it thoroughly before you try it ... lots about trypto and 5-htp here on the site ... in fact, there's a 5 htp discussion thread happening right now ... check the home page ...

Welcome back, AM ... we've missed you! You'll get through this ... yet another crapalta "phase" ... :)

Thanks FN

It's nice to see your words again - and to feel some reassurance. Thanks for your response. xx

Glad you've got some work! Brilliant.

I will do some trawling on this site - my brain is so foggy today Im having difficulty reading. But tomorrow is a new day.

another mind: when i was at 4 months i was having a reallyy rough time. at three months i had been doing great, it is definitely an up and down recovery. glad to hear that you are working on mindfulness. i do that also and it really works for me. i finally gave in and asked my doc for clonidine. he thought it was a good idea and i now take .1 mg at bedtime, more to help me sleep - a good nights rest helps with the anxiety immensly. now that i am at five months off the C things have gotten a lot better with anxiety. however, as we all know, it is cyclic. most of my pain is gone, but i have arthritis anyway - so thats still with me no matter what.

i understand its rough, even though our symptoms can be different, you will improve!
