Tomorrow I have the first visit with my Primary Care Doctor since starting this roller coaster.  Some of you may remember she had a nice long vacation and then covered another office - so I've been flying blind since May.  Well not blind - I've had you....THANK YOU!

With the exception of a few phone calls, I have had little contact with her.  She had instructed me to do the every other technique for two weeks and stop the Cymbalta.  Which I did - almost.  We know this doesn't work - and I found you - and I've counted beads ever since.

I'm down to 9 beads.  Which thrills me.  I'm taking these last ones so incredibly slow.  I'm okay with that.

So what do I go in there with?  How do I need to arm myself so I'm prepared to defend the route I've taken and possibly educate her?  Suggestions?

Amybc7:

let your success be your "defense" . actually by bead couting, you've taken the "offensive" - you've been proactive in taking care of your health! this web site is full of stories from folks who did the every other day thing (like me) or just plain went cold turkey. lots of horror stories here. if she is a good doctor she will suport your choice. bead counting or every other day? if she has any problem with it ask her why one strategy would be worse/better than the other?

Good work!

You could take out one bead a week over 9 weeks, adjusting as required. No rush. As for the doc-- you could say, "I did exactly as you said, alternating days for two weeks and then I just quit cold turkey. That was great advice, thank you." But that would be a lie, and that's not good medicine for anyone.

Or you could say, "I decided to taper off slowly, so I didn't alternate days, but rather I just reduced the dosage carefully on a gentle slope each day. That worked great. Now I'm down to just a couple of milligrams per day and I will be at zero in a little while. I'm feeling fine."

You will be fine. Be true to yourself.
