Out of "likes" again..... But I "like" this .... 'Cept I prefer going alone.... I like the silence and solitude and being able to "listen to the trees grow". ;-)

Which is why I'm so envious (in a "positive" way, of course) of Carleeta being in the mountains of New York state right now!

Kicking the poison out of my life

No surprise there... I've long subscribed to the idea that getting outside into nature, with real dirt and trees and sunshine is essential for good mental health. Read a different article recently about bacteria in soil that promote the production of serotonin, or something like that, and so digging in the soil, gardening, has a lasting antidepressant effect.

I edited to post the link, but I've read a couple of articles about it. I'm not surprised by it at all. As long as I can remember, I turned to outdoor work in the yard whenever I was upset. My pdoc was pleased when I started a business involving outdoor work. I used to think it was just the air and the sunlight, but the microbiology makes a ton of sense. We have become such an antiseptic germphobic society. But we are a part of this planet, and it makes sense that we were created to live in harmony with the nature, not sealed off from it

Read so many painful stories on here and offering others support while trying to heal myself from cymbalta and other antidepressents.

Ok....I see these nature walks...lol lol lol....I'm up in the mountains with more than enough nature around me right now...lol lol lol....my niece has acres and acres and acres.....I hear all the different birds (some don't even sound like birds..lol lol.....that's the bluejay)...took a walk down behind the poor area and just looked for where my nieces tree stand is located.....ummmmmm all of a sudden I saw two deer walking in my same direction... I very lightly and quietly started to walk back towards the house (like I was tip toeing and my hands balancing me at the same time). My niece looked over at me and asked what I was doing....I stated I was trying to get back because I was afraid the deer were coming towards me...lol lol lol....she laughed and laughed, and stated how the deer are more afraid of me than I am of them...lol lol lol....I stated I didn't think so...lol lol....They ran the other way and I made it safely back...lol lol lol...yesterday, the fox, today the deer, ok...I love nature, although I think at a distance with walls and glass between me....lol lol lol....All kidding aside, nature is wonderful for depression.....does have a soothing effect :)

FiveNotions.....ha ha ha ha ha.  thank you for yet another site where I could read about the animals I have seen more often lately....lol lol lol.   I did't think the deer would hurt me, although Mamma or grandma deer was a bit bigger than me....lol lol lol.  Usually things bigger than me, have a tendency to make me feel challenged..lol lol lol lol.  Unless it is a human male, they seem to have to rise to my challenge...lol lol lol.  Only kidding.   Maybe I should stay out in the mountains more, although I honestly do not like being so far out of the city where it's totally all country.  The country is beautiful, especially this time of year, although too much quietness drives me a bit batty.  this time of the season in the Adirondacks is totally gorgeous and so colorful, yet the weather today was still in the 70's are we are getting ready to close up the pool. It's a bit sad because we know its time to hibernate and at the same time, you could go and jump in a heated pool today without a cloud in the sky.  I will say I did get a chance to relax and not want to come home until tomorrow, although I needed the comfort of my bed and knew I needed to get back today......:)

Carleeta, that's so amazing ... I just love, can't get enuf of, being out where there's no civilization, no people, and silence... except for nature sounds .... you are definitely at the extrovert end of the spectrum .... I'm at the opposite end... introvert ... that's why your gift for people and activity and entertaining ... making everyone feel welcome and at home .... are so remarkable to me ...

one of the happiest years of my life was the year after my ex husband and I separated ... I lived in our cabin in West Virginia ... with just our dog for company... right through the winter...when I had to park my car at the foot of the 1,900 foot "mountain" and hike up to the cabin after work at night ... and hike down in the morning .... drove almost 10 miles to get to the commuter train station in Harper's Ferry...that took me to/from my seminary library job in DC ... had only enuf heat to barely keep the pipes from freezing, so heated the place with just the fireplace (husband was cranky, wanted to try to freeze me out, he didn't realize I love that kind of life hehehe)... took ice cold showers, slept in a comfy down sleeping bag on the floor by the fireplace... the best parts were the wild winter snow storms, with the wind howling ... and, the summer thunder storms .... wish I could have kept that place, and the dog ... cabin was my sanctuary, dog was my best friend  ...  :P
