jeans shrink

Torn and holey jeans are hot here right now. Some of the old "faded" blue jeans from 10 to 20 years ago are selling for up $500  a pair. What idiots.

appreciation society

A truly sad day for us all here.

We have lost a great man, a WWII veteran, Commander in the Royal Navy and a damn fine gentleman.

To have stood by our Queen for the years he has, continued in his contact with the military, encouraging his grandsons William and Harry (both Military serving) and countless acts of charity.

But let us remember how much better the United Kingdom is today for his wonderful work.

God Bless Prince Philip and God Save the Queen

I saw that story about Prince Philip this morning IUN, that is so sad. How does the queen function after being married to such a wonderful man for all those years?

BBQ ribs

Queenie is very strong - always has been. She will carry on her duty all the same.

Would be nice to see her out live Charles and we can go straight to King William! He's not quite the blue-bloods the rest of his family are...

Is Charles healthy? did he inherit the longevity genes from his mother and grandmother?

anatomy lecture

Well he will have access to the finest health that can be offered, so he will probably live a similar length of time. Philip had a heart condition for a long time, and the fact that he lasted to 3 days before his 100th birthday says a lot.

But the Queen is as fit as a butcher's dog, I've not doubt she will be around for a while yet.

I see the funeral is to take place on Saturday, April 17, at 9:30am eastern time (my time zone). I'll probably watch a little bit of it. :-(

Watched the 41 gun salute this morning. A very British occasion....

Obviously the Royal Family will not be exempt from the COVID rules so there can only be 30 mourners permitted at his funeral.

Boris Johnson will not attend "out of respect" to let another go in his place. I should damn well think so!!!

Timer gun

What's the significance of the 41 gun salute? I know I can google it but I thought I'd ask you. I'm more familiar with the 21 gun salute the US military uses.

Is Boris Johnson not well liked?

Gun powder

It is normally a 21 gun salute for qualifying people when they have passed. The extra 20 is reserved for royalty as far as I know, hence the 41 gun fires. They were shot from the various locations of which have been a part of Prince Philip's life from his homes in Windsors, Buckingham Palace, Edinburgh Castle etc to his posts in the Navy such as Portsmouth...

deliver the goods

I don't remember Adam Ant but I do remember the highway men using that term in 18th century England during some of my coach trips.

stand and deliver
1. obsolete A threat made by highwaymen (muggers operating along the King's highway) in 18th-century England, demanding the traveler halt and surrender their money or goods. A group of bandits descended on the caravan of travelers, the leader stopping in front of the first carriage and shouting, "Stand and deliver!"

Goods (and) services

I remember Adam Ant but I can't remember any of his songs. I googled his top 3 songs and they don't sound familiar to me. Maybe it's someone else I'm thinking of. BTW, Adam Ant is worth 10M USD right now. Nice!

ps. I remember the A.N.T.S. but I'm really remembering YMCA.
