Hi Everyone - been a long time since I've posted.   Have been very sick with my other health problems in addition to trying to wean off this awful awful drug.  I've been having terrible stomach problems lately and am wondering if it could be a withdrawal symptom?  After one horrible decision to try stopping the Cym entirely, I am back to approx. 4mg dose.  Needless to say, I am back to weaning slowly, will probably go even more slowly than I had before to try to minimize the w/d effects.  I guess if it takes me years to get off this drug, then that's what it will take :(

Anyway.... my question... I've been having stomach problems since probably the beginning of summer but they seem to be getting worse as I lower my Cym dose.  The symptoms are kind of random so it's a bit hard to tell if they're connected to the Cym w/d or not?  I have stomach and abdominal pain and cramps, diarrhea, gas, bloating, and nausea.  It varies from not bothering me too much to being so severe I am doubled over with pain.  I can also feel somewhat ok, and then it will just hit me.  For example, I had a bowl of oatmeal several nights ago, tummy didn't feel too bad before I ate. Within two hours, I had gas, awful cramps and then spent a fun hour in the bathroom. I curled up on the couch with severe pain and cramps for several hours then it eased off.  Not completely but to a more tolerable level.  Also, when it started, within maybe a half hour, my stomach bloated like you wouldn't believe.  The symptoms don't usually come on this fast, usually its a more gradual onset.  But this happened less than a week after my ill-fated attempt to stop the Cym so maybe that had something to do with it, as I don't feel like I've really stabilized at this dose yet?  Oddly, I always had trouble with constipation but it seems like since starting to wean off the Cym, I have these new problems.

If it gets worse or continues to be this bad, I'll go back to my PCP but honestly she hasn't been that much of a help so far with the stomach issue. So I thought I'd turn to the experts here!  Anyone experienced anything like this, especially when getting down to the lower doses?  I apologize in advance if I don't reply to any responses. My poor health doesn't allow me to do much these days.  Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Tria!

It's good to hear from you again, but I'm sorry that you haven't been doing well.  I have been off the poison for over 10 months now but still have occasional issues regarding sleep and anxiety.  The anxiety was really bad about 5-6 months off - the "freezing" kind, where I couldn't do anything.

I can relate to the stomach issues all too well.  And the bloating - I can end up looking like I am about to give birth!  I definitely try not to eat much at any one time, but you're right - sometimes it doesn't take much.  I have spent as long as 12 hours in that condition - yep, it sucks!!  About the only thing that I have found that is of any help is Pepto Bismol tablets and Imodium.  It usually feels better when lying down.  Not a pleasant subject, but the pain can be horrible!  Sometimes it starts within 30 minutes of when I eat.  Other times, I have no trouble at all..

I hope this helps you.  Please stay with us and post more often - we want to know how you're doing and want to help!

Liz

I started at 60mg 2X daily and had gotten down to 60mg 1X daily when the gastro problem started. That was 5 days ago. I am in the bathroom 30-40 times a day and have lost 10 pounds, I can't eat, I can't sleep all I can do is run to the bathroom. Imodium isn't helping. I have been drinking all the water I can just to try and stave off dehydration - any suggestions?

Welcome Laura!

Just curious - you didn't drop from 120 to 60 all at once I hope...  The faster the down dosing, the more withdrawal symptoms you will feel.  I hope that is not the case - can you tell us how you weaned down?

We are here for you and want to help, but we need some more information.  Also, are you on  the name brand (Eli Lilly) or the generic?  How long have you been taking it and are you on any other meds?  Answers will help us...

Please let us know... we care!
