Hello!

tl;dr: I am currently weaned down to 7.5 mg/day (1/4 of 30mg generic Cymbalta capsule) for a week.  Do I go completely off meds? Should I go down bead by bead?

--

Thank you for reading this. I was placed on 60 mg/day by my rheumatologist as a way to help both with my nerve pain and mild depression. I found that it helped a lot with my aches and pain, nothing for my depression, and made me more fatigued than normal, which ultimately hurt my quality of life. So I began weaning about a month ago and it looks like this:

60mg - 3 months (original dose)

30mg - 1 week

15mg - 3 weeks (was visiting with family and friends and did not want adverse symptoms in their presence)

7.5 - 4 days

The most noticeable side effects have been mild irritability, exhaustion, nausea and diarrhea. They are pretty much tolerable. I already make ginger tea to combat nausea from another medication I take (methotrexate), so I just drink more ginger tea. I've dealt with the others before when I quit smoking and when I stopped taking Adderall.

So my question is: Where should I go from here? I'm particularly afraid of completely stopping the medication from what I've read on peoples experiences. Am I weaned low enough that it shouldn't be that bad to just stop taking it? Should I go bead by bead at this point? I basically want advice on what to do here on out. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year!

yuoppi, welcome. It seems like you have done very well so far. Most of us had worse symptoms with the last few beads. I would think it would be prudent to start bead counting just to be safe.

Thanks fishinghat and TryinginFL! I'm very grateful that I haven't experienced those dreaded brain zaps through the weaning. Being in between jobs has allowed me to get extra sleep and keep my body from being too stressed during the process. However, it has certainly not made applying for jobs easy. I'm hoping it will get easier as time goes by.

I'm also in an interesting situation because of the weekly Methotrexate injection that I take for my RA. The methotrexate (pretty much poison but keeps my RA in check) leaves me feeling awfully achy and tired for the 36 hours following it. That along with the cymbalta weaning makes those 2 days pretty rough. But once I'm past that point, I feel so much better that the withdrawal is barely bothersome.

I'll keep y'all posted, but I truly appreciate your help and sincerity  :)
