Well my thanks to my history with 12 years of antidepressants in the form of ssri and snri. The last few years my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) has waffled in and out of the normal range. It has finally went out and both my thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) have went down. This is a common side effect of ssri and snri.

On the flip side my diet is virtually salt free. No salt so very little iodine. I have requested a 24 hour urine test for iodine content. The test for low iodine. He has refused as it being unnecessary, take the medicine. I have sent him a message back saying what will it hurt? I want the test, I will pay for it and if my iodine is normal I will take the medicine. He said he will 'consider it'. Sounds like I may be looking for a new dr.

FH,

So sorry...

Guess he turned out to not be so trainable after all.  Just another one of those arrogant guys I can't stand!  I was so happy when I got rid of mine! :)

Too bad it's such an ongoing search and so few who meet the requirements. :(

OH MAN....I am just livid with anger. I called and left a message with my new dr. Because of my low T3 and T4 thyroid enzymes he wanted to put me on thyroid medicine. I understand the logic of that. When I called I left him a message that I am basically on a no salt diet so I am concerned about low iodine which can cause these low values. Can we do an iodine test first. Taking more iodine would be a simple and permanent fix and better than going on another medicine. If iodine is normal then there is no choice and I will go on the med. His nurse called me back just a few minutes ago and said the dr stated that it was his decision not mine on my health care choices and I must listen to him. I told the nurse "I got news for you. The health care choices in my life are ultimately mine. I will gladly work with a dr but the final decision will be mine."   She hung up on me!!!

I can not express on this site what my exact feelings are but you all know me well enough to fill in the blanks. I am now looking for a new dr.

ARRGGHHH

My dear FH,

Oh, how I understand!  My last visit to that Pain Management office was the absolute pits!   And this miserable nurse actually hung up on you?  Sheesh!

Guess it's back to the search again - I'm so sorry.

I get the fury - I seem to be in a constant state of it the past few days!

I am now going to check out acupuncture but the problem is the expense - no insurance for that! :(

Me too - arrrrrrgggggh

But we got to keep trying TFL. I forgot, did I ask you if you ever tried the lidocaine patches?

Thanks, FH...

I just remembered I had 2 Flector patches and just stuck one on...

OMG, I have been almost in tears today because of the pain in my right hip.  I have to pick up RX's tomorrow so will see if I can buy some of the Lidicaine patches.  Don't like to complain, but it sure is getting to be a bit much with this continual searching for relief, isn't it?

The Hydrocodone (10-325) helps but I am pretty much limited to 1/day.

Almost time for the Blackhawks and in another hour the Cubbies - hard to keep up with it all, but it at least it holds my attention!

I wish you much luck in your continued search...

Liz :)

The lidocaine patches are by prescription only but they work miracles on my wife's back pain.

Guess I have no chance then - no pain management dr. - don't think I even want one at this point!

I am so sick and fed up with these miserable people I want to zook!
