Is there anything in the literature or in posts on here regarding Cymbalta withdrawal causing respiratory hypersensitivity? I did a search on this forum but didn't see anything. Ever since getting off C, I have had an oversensitivity to all my respiratory organs. It's like allergies that are just worse. It's like my nose and lungs are super-sensitive to any inhaled particles, be it dust, or outdoor allergens, or anything. I am in protracted withdrawals, and still have an unstable nervous system (high anxiety that's affected all sorts of things in my body.)

The only thing I know of is that in the original manufacturers drug insert which lists cold and flu like symptoms.

Hi Ramona, I'm sorry you're having so much trouble ... :(  how long have you been off the stuff now ? What other issues are you dealing with? And what other meds / supplements are you using at this point ?

I also went through a protracted withdrawal, and had all sorts of sensitivities (vision, hearing, digestion, you name it), but don't recall these sorts of respiratory issues ...

All I can say is that serotonin, which crapalta works to increase, is essential in most of our key body functions, including respiration. So, it wouldn't surprise me if what you're experiencing might be related to the change in your brain and a possible reduction in it's natural serotonin functioning ... I did a bit of research / googling, and found a number of articles about the role of serotonin in respiratory function, but none of them seemed to mention allergies, etc.

Hi Ramona

I do remember that the spring and summer of the first year that I was off Crapalta I seem to have my allergies bother me much more than they usually do and that my allergy med did not seem to work as well. Thankfully that was a side effect that went away as time went on.

Since you are on your first year off then I would guess that this could be happening to you as well but it will get better.

Take care of you

Nancy

Thanks, everyone. Off Cymbalta 8 months now, FiveNotions.

Interestingly, I was talking with someone on survivingantidepressants.com who had increased respiratory sensitivity while in withdrawals from Effexor.

I'll check the FDA database after work to see if they've got any "official" reports of this as a cymbalta symptom ... I'm always happy to blame the junk for any problems I'm having ... including clogged sink and dirty laundry   :P

Hey FN. I think she was asking about it being a withdrawal symptom. There is plenty of research on it causing respiratory symptoms as a side effect. I could only find the one reference to respiratory issues as a withdrawal symptom.

oops, thanks for the correction, FH ... gee, I feel left out, thought I'd have every possible withdrawal effect, but gosh, I missed out on the respiratory stuff ...  :P
