    Want off Cymbalta for good

Posted 23 July 2016 - 10:55 AM

I've tried searching thru previous posts but haven't found anything about my particular problem.  I've been weaning since January and I think it's gone well.  I have rather minor withdrawal symptoms compared to most.  I'm down to 5 mg and over the past few weeks I am having more often than not, abdominal pain, nausea and upper belly bloating.  I am a heavy girl anyway but this is new and it's in the upper abdomen, above my waistline, I getting really big.  Sometimes the nausea is so great I think I'm going to vomit.  Can anyone explain this and has anyone else had this problem?  I don't want to ask my doc about it because he is unaware that I'm decreasing the Cymbalta on my own.  But I also don't want to have something unrelated to Cymbalta and serious go untreated.  I still "go" normally for me.  Any ideas?  Anyone with the same problems?

Very common symptoms especially at the stage you are at. Cymbalta controls seratonin which regulates mood in the brain but it is actually most common in the digestive tract. I think I lived off of pepto and gas-x for about a month. You are getting down to the last part of the taper so I would warn to stabilize at your current level for a week or two before proceeding and when you do proceed drop slower. That last little bit can be the worse part.

    I want my life back!

It was the same / similar thing for me, Gran .. I found that ginger worked wonders for me .... ginger tea, ginger ale .. and, most effective, the dried/candied ginger ... I found it it my local Safeway and Giant, but I assume that it's also at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and health food stores ... I tried the pepto, Gas-X, and a few other OTC remedies, but they didn't help (each of us is so different, frustrating that we seem to have to try different stuff until we hit what works)

The stomach / digestive stuff lasted a few weeks to a month for me ... fading over time ... it will be the same for you ...  :)

Gran,

Glad to see you.  Was wondering how things were going with you.  Fishinghat is right about taking it a bit slower towards to end of the bead counting.  FiveNotions did find ease with the ginger. So if you have ginger ale on hand give it a try....

I will go buy some sort of ginger tomorrow.  I love ginger ale and ginger tea.  I was thinking this morning that I should slow down for a few weeks and let my body catch up.  Thanks so much for the info.
