I am coming off of cymbalta after 6 years of Lexepro and and 2 years of Cymbalta

Posted 02 September 2009 - 11:54 AM

I was on 60 mg of Cymbalta for about 4 years before that it was Lexapro for 3 years. 1 month ago I went to the doc for an annual and he told me my weight problems could be due to my meds. So lets try and get off them. We started with the amitriptilyn and in 1 month I weaned off that with nausea and headaches but nothing like the Cybalta. After about 2 1/2 weeks on 30 mg I started getting a migraine (I have had them under control with food restrictions) but I have had for the last week and a half. Also the nausea was so bad, I think it was part migraine and part withdrawl nausea. This site has helped me to battle my widthdrawl side effects so here is my story:

I have been taking Benedryl (generic) 2 every night before bed. I sleep great and no night terrors except the one about being pregnant wooh. I have not had a migraine in 2 days but I don't know if that is the withdrawl cutting back or the fact that I began taking my Imitrex every morning to catch it before it starts. I also take pepcid every morning and I have not had any nausea. At about 4:00 I get a terrible headache on the top of my head to my forehead and all the way around like my head is going to explode. I take 4 ibuprophen and it goes away thank God. I was told by my MD to stay on the 30mg for another month than go off cold turkey. I am not sure what I am going to do but I have 1 month to figure it out. I will keep everyone informed. If you have any suggetions or questions please contact me.

Am trying to get off Cymbalta 30mg and wondering about brain zaps.

Hi Shannon,

The only suggestion I can offer is to think twice before dropping the 30mg cold turkey. From my own experience, dropping from 60 to 30 wasn't too much of a problem (recognize the strange headache!) but trying to drop to 30mg every second day was not successful.

You may want to read through some of the posts to see what others have done.

regards, Maureen.

how to wean myself of cymbalta

If I were you, I would not stop cold turkey from 30. I did 13 days ago from 20, and I've seriously not gotten out of bed except to use the restroom. I also have had pretty much a non stop migraine (except for rare moments here and there, now incl.). I'm a mom of 4 under the age of 10, so being on the hiatus is pretty serious. If i had it to do all over again I swear I would count down to every last bead and come down as slow as possible. If I had to go down to five little beads I would. I've had childbirths, fibro, breast masses, epilepsy, panic attacks, etc. This has been the hardest on me. Good luck.

Shannon,
I would not do what your doctor is telling you to do. They do not know about the withdrawls!
Some will say it's this or that, or that it's you! All in your head, that's right it is in my head, the Brain ZAps, well I get them in my teeth! The abdominal pains, cramping, neck pain, shoulder pain, there are over a hundered of them. The withdrawl of this drug from your brain, body affects everything!!

Please check out the withdrawl symptom site http://prozactruth.com/cymbalta.htm

Read them all, and keep reading them when anything starts to happen weird in your body I bet you it will be on the list.

It has really helped me during my withdrawls to know it is not me, that I am not crazy, or going crazy. It even talks about that too!!

Being that you have 30 mg caps you can cut down using them!!!! Just buy some vitamins that come in caps, empty out the stuff, and then start your decrease that way.

I am now on 40 mg, but am taking out 20 beads, sounds insane, but it keeps my withdrawls
tolerable!!! I have chronic pain as it is, and this withdrawl thing is causing me even more pain. I will just keep taking out beads, and keep going down that way until I get to 30 mg.
I do have 25 mg caps of another drug so that will make it easy for that dose.

Check out the one post, this lady actually has down how many beads equal what dose down to the last like 2 mg!!!

Goddd Luck, if you need to talk, I AM ALWAYS HERE,
Debbie
