Hi. I have been on 90mg of Cymbalta for about 8 years now. I also take Wellbutrin XL to balance everything out because cymbalta didn't work for me by itself. I was diagnosed with Chronic Daily Migraines in 2008 and the depression and anxiety just came along for the ride. My migraines are still daily, but I wanted to try to get off some of my medications. I am in my late 40s. I went from 90mg of Cymbalta down to 60mg for about six weeks. I don't really think I felt any different, but now I realize after reading all of this information, that some of my symptoms may have been due to this decrease. I have now dropped to 30mg and been on that for about a week. Now I am seeing real chang Crying all the time. Extreme sadness, loss of interest, no energy, no drive. I look at things I need to do and just walk away because they are so overwhelming.  I'm just not sure if this is just due to the Cymbalta? I havent touched my doasage of Wellbutrin. My dr recommended one drug at a time. I have gained so much weight on these drugs due to how they make me feel and combined with my debilitating migraines, I am now at 50-60 pounds overweight. Feel like complete shit all the time. I'm really at a loss here. I haven't read through everyone's posts, but can anyone relate or have a similar story? I just want to get off all this medication but then I question whether I am ready to live without the meds......are they really helping me? Or ultimately hurting me. I welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks. Michele

Welcome Michele,

These all sound like common withdrawal symptoms. First you are in the right place. Without the help of my husband and the family I have here, there is no telling where I would be.

We are all full of our own bits of advice and knowledge here, but "fishinghat" can answer your medication questions. If he doesn't know them he will find out. That being said, I suggest holding at 30mg for now. You can try some fish oil to help temper the anxiety.

If you need us we are here.

Blessings,
Raven

I agree with Raven. You might also add some Vitamin C and be sure and stay well hydrated. These are classic symptoms and will pass with time and patience. Many  have successfully used Benadryl to help with the anxiety. Its active ingredient is diphenhydramine. It is commonly used in sleep aides as well. It may make you a little drowsy during the day so use caution but it will help the anxiety. Your body builds up tolerance to it so just use it intermittently.

BY the way, your dr is right. One medicine at a time. If you change too many things at once you will not know if any new symptoms are due to what change.

If things get too bad there is a couple meds your dr can prescribe to help. They are non=addictive and have no withdrawal.

Hi Michele,

Different point of view here. I would reinstate to 60 mg then bead count from there. Much gentler.

You have been on it for eight years, so your body is used to it, it will rebel.
Reinstating to 60mg will bring you almost instant relief.

I would stabilize at 60mg, which was easy on you. Then slowly go down. When at around 30mg, you could start the Wellbutrin if needed. I hate to see people suffer when you can minimize the pain by going slower.

And yes, some people need to be on something for a certain quality of life.

Captain, what is your point of you here?

Well first of all I was surprised that her dr had her on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin at the same time. Generally not considered a good idea although I have seen drs do it before.

Interactions between your selected drugs
Major
bupropion - duloxetine
Applies to: Wellbutrin (bupropion), Cymbalta (duloxetine)
Talk to your doctor before using buPROPion together with DULoxetine. Combining these medications may increase the risk of seizures, which may occur rarely with either medication. In addition, buPROPion can increase the blood levels of DULoxetine, which may increase other side effects. You may be more likely to experience seizures with these medications if you are elderly, undergoing alcohol or drug withdrawal, have a history of seizures, or have a condition affecting the central nervous system such as a brain tumor or head trauma. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol during treatment. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.  (From Drugs.com)

As far as the Cymbalta withdrawal it really depends on if she can handle the symptoms she has right now. If she can then just stay at 30 until life gets better. If it is too overwhelming then Gail's approach is better. Go to 60 and stabilize and then start bead counting.
