Anyone have this?  I did the slow detox that ended about a week ago.  I'm only sleeping about 4 hours a night which I've read is a normal withdraw symptom.  During the day though I have random songs playing in the back of my mind all day.  Anyone else have this?

This is the closest I could find on the site...

Yanvrno - As an aside, when I first started taking Cymbalta, I remember that for at least 6 months after starting, if not longer, I heard songs in my head that seemed to run as a simultaneously sound track to everything else my brain was doing. At times it was really disconcerting. This was different than having a song running through your mind, really weird! Any body else ever had that happen?

Ah! Have this also, hearing music in the background, but no real music!

Or if I put on music, it continues to play long after it's over. Enerving it is.
The way to stop it, for myself, open the refregirator, start up the foyer, listen to something else, change the radio, watch TV or tolerate it to the end just knowing it's not real.

It has to be soft music. I call it Angel music!!!
PS, I am not in withdrawal, just.....crazy bit😀

Was taking for fibro, went off and entered cymbalta hell. Hoping to learn coping skills & to also help others who have been affected by this horrible drug.

Totally relate to this! Every morning as soon as my feet hit the floor there’s a song running over and over in my mind. It plays in the background of my thoughts for hours. The next morning when I get up...same exact thing.

Ty fishinghat. I wish i could say all is well with me, and i know some day soon it will be, however today is a rough one.

I just discovered this informative forum and for this today i am grateful.

My story:

In June 2017 i was prescribed 30mg duloxetene for my fibromyalgia. At that time my dr did not advise me that it would only be effective for 3-4 months and by Aug she increased rx to 60mg. After 60mg stopped being effective, she increased my dosage to 90mg instead of taking me off it. Another 4 months go by, welcome back fibro pain, etc. I was also not enjoying the side effects that accompanied being on the drug. So in early 2018 I decided to stop taking it and researched the best procedure to follow.

In early Feb i began tapering off from 90mg and gradually decreased to 0 as of 18 May. Today is day 7 cymbalta-free and i am in SO MUCH PAIN! Every limb hurts, my feet and hands are throbbing from nerve pain, my body feels like it’s being shocked, i keep crying from the overwhelming pain everywhere.

I began the worst sinus infection about 4 weeks ago and developed conjunctivitis which left me unable to see for a few days, as well as horrible nerve pain, brain zaps and intense bone and muscle pain.

Fibromyalgia was a cakewalk compared to these withdrawals!!! Today i am so discouraging that such a horrible medication could EVER be unleashed on unsuspecting and vulnerable people who trusted their dr and followed their recommendation.

So, my main questions...

How long will these withdrawal symptoms be THIS severe? I realize everyone has their own way of coping and everyone experiences withdrawals at different rates, but for the majority, how long after going cymbalta-free do the WORST symptoms last?

First of all the sinus infection/cold type symptoms tend to be one of the first withdrawal symptoms.

As far as the main part of the symptoms they usually last 6 to 8 months but having said that it can be as little as 2 or 3 weeks or as much as a year. Mine lasted 9 months. Until you feel normal...On average 1 to 2 years.

New to this site. Ever since I was on cymbalta I would occasionally notice songs stuck in my head, but never really bothered me. About a month ago, starting the withdrawal, I noticed this particularly got really bad and was bothering me. Even now as I’m typing this a song I just heard on YouTube is stuck in my head. It’s been a daily nuisance for this whole withdrawal now.

I’m switching to another medicine that I took as a kid and teenager that worked really well for me, so I’m sure this will go away sooner or later, though it may take a lot of time like all the other symptoms and changes.

It’s a shame how I ended up on cymbalta. I developed health issues in high school and my mother was overbearing and looked too much into it. I ended up at a BS school anxiety program which didn’t apply to me at all. I mentally felt great on what I was taking at the time. But I was 17 so my mom had them switch me to cymbalta without my consent. Granted at the time I didn’t know about anxiety or medicine stuff so I just listened and didn’t really care.

Funny enough I did well on cymbalta for 2 and a half years until apparently I got serotonin syndrome from that, trazodone, and tryptophan in a protein shake I was drinking twice a day. Turns out it may have been misdiagnosed too, because I didn’t really feel all that bad, and my muscle metabolites test was normal and numerous psychiatrists say that wasn’t what I had because my cymbalta and trazodone dose was so low.

Well, nonetheless I was yanked off both cymbalta and trazodone cold turkey after being hospitalized. For the first time in my life after that I developed severe anxiety/panic and so many other symptoms and ended up on the medicine carousel.

Got things sorted out 10 months later and got back on this time a higher dose of cymbalta. The next two or so years were not too bad. Still a lot of depression and anxiousness left over from my period of hardship.

Well recently I developed severe OCD due to life changes and new responsibilities and I finally have made the decision to go back with what worked with me for years, and I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time but hadn’t because I knew cymbalta withdrawal was so bad. But, I’m toughing it out this time.

So, yeah sorry. That’s my little story and I definitely deal with the song thing! Lol.

Thanks for sharing your story Bearfan. A lot can be learned from reading your story. Several members have developed serotonin syndrome or symptoms resembling it when taking tryptophan or amino acids while ona SSRI/SNRI.

So are you weaning off the Cymbalta bow or cross-tapering to another AD? Keep us posted on your progress and good luck.

Welcome Bearfan,

Thank you for sharing your story.

I'm wondering, same as Fishinghat, what are you cross tapering the Cymbalta with?

Come by anytime, you're welcomed!

It’s Zoloft that I’m going back on to. I felt great on that for years and contrary to a good many I had no side effects and functioned great in life. There’s been a major issue in my life with my mom making health care decisions which is how I ended up on cymbalta. My doc actually recommended I start it as soon as I went down one step in cymbalta, and I did some research, and even though it seemed safe I’ve played it even safer. Didn’t start until I was down to 20mg cymbalta and I’m gonna stick with this 25mg of Zoloft until I am completely off.

I’ve done decent so far. Just really vivid dreams which is typical it seems. Thanks all for your responses!

Bearfan,

Bright one here, my hat to you!

I've not had any problems with Zoloft except a bit of diarrhea. It didn't work for me but I hear good about it.

Let's hear from you again! Thank you for answering our question. We appreciate this.
