My 63yo brother is currently hospitalized in an agitated state and is withdrawing from 120 mg Cymbalta as well as Abilify. He had MRI of brain to rule out physical problems and it was negative for stroke, etc. He is incoherent at times, unable to support his body weight on his legs, turn over, pull himself up in bed, walk. He repeats phrases over and over. He isn't married and I am his main caretaker. I've read articles about this drug but just wanted some input from those who actually endured the horrible withdrawal.
Thanks to anyone who may give me insight.

Hi Elana,
Sorry to hear about what you're both going through (as I'm sure it's tough on you too).
I can't comment on some of the problems he's having, and I don't know the other drug, but that's a huge dose to be dropping from. Is he going cold turkey or are they scaling down the dose slowly?
Maureen.

That's a very dramatic drop.
I know we're all different, but I was trying to come off 30mg by alternating days, and found myself unwell enough to google 'cymbalta withdrawal'; prior to that I'd only been on 60mg for a few weeks after going up from 30mg. If that dose is enough to cause withdrawal symptoms it gives you an idea of the drug's problems.
Did the doctor have any significant reason for not tapering more slowly?
Debbie has posted a link to a site which lists the side effects which have been observed. It's a long list, and obviously we're not going to get all of them.
keep us posted.
