Just had news from one of my friends, who has fortunately turned to me for some advice.

She took her 14 year old son... to her GP as he has been very low for the last few weeks. Doctor took out his pad and wrote a prescription for Duloxetine.

Aside from it being Duloxetine I had told them quite firmly to bin them and get him off to some therapy. I cannot believe that a GP can hand this stuff out.. to a child... after 10 minutes in a surgery.

So wrong.

So sad, so twisted, so unbelievable, so wrong.
Thank God, you were there!

I'm going to talk to him one day next week. I think he needs someone to open up so he doesn't feel so alone, and ready when he goes for talking therapy. Can't be easy for a teenager...

Thanks Hat. I would like to look into the practice further as it doesn't sound right given the potential of suicide in younger people.

It just shows you how little these GP's know. I think it is far better for me to talk with him. I will of course mention the site.

He is a very well educated young chap, bought up in a lovely Christian household; the father being an aid worker. I don't want him to suffer - he has so much ahead of him, and I sure don't want the parents to suffer either as a result of medical neglect on the side of the NHS.
