Yep, yep, I hope so, and I agree.

I've heard it described on here as vertigo, but as a serious (temporary) sufferer of vertigo due to another (now resolved) condition, I wouldn't. With vertigo I could actually find myself suddenly on the floor from leaning against a wall, sometimes unable to move a single muscle - I felt like i was the only stable thing - and that the rest of the world was made of jelly. Your eyes spin as the brain attempts to make sense of the visual world.

Given my experience with that (which lasted several years) I find it particularly unpleasant to have balance problems, however it IS different. This time it feels like ME which is unstable.

I feel as though I should be wearing concrete shoes to keep myself stable. :)

Having on the weekend dropped my tiny dose, I have again the tinnitus which I find connected with the brain zaps: like the zaps are a momentary dramatic zap of tinnitus inwards to the brain. Does that make sense? I also find a strong connection between the two. I spilt red wine down the front of myself on Saturday - once you might get away with - but this was twice!

Today I mislaid my car keys twice - they were where I'd put them only seconds earlier - sounds like something which can happen to us all, but this happened all day with various things.

Maureen.

I'm just grateful that the emotional stuff hasn't returned

thank you. i have had vertigo in the past but nothing like this. i have nearly fallen out of bed i dont know how many times. i have learned different things like moving slower, turning my head first then moving my body. its driving me insane. i have been really forgetful. the ringing is so annoying, especially in a quiet room.

im just glad i have a bar in my shower to hold on to!

Have you had vertigo diagnosed by an ENT person? Because there are ways they can fix it, unlike giddiness. My vertigo was due to an adrenal problem causing wildly fluctuating blood pressure combined with low potassium. With vertigo my eyes would spin (which I hadn't realized until I was told - you're usually too busy trying to stay stable!)

The 'cure' worked quite well for me for 12 months.

I find the Cymbalta withdrawal giddiness quite different. If you don't know much about it, the way it's described is with vertigo, it's the earth moving, :), with giddiness, it's you moving.

Sorry if you already know all this, just thought I'd share it because the thought of having vertigo when you don't have to just about makes me want to throw up at the thought.

kind regards, Maureen.

yes I went to an ENT he said I had it and the hospital said it too when I ended up there after a bad spell. but so far nothing has been able to stop it, dr said its most likely because more then one thing is causing it. i was told i had "meniere's disease" but after reading many posts here i believe more and more that its the cymbalta withdrawal.

Hi,

The giddiness I get from Cymbalta withdrawal is nothing like the vertigo I used to get.

With the giddiness I feel floaty and unstable, like I need concrete boots to stay upright. I also desperately want to keep my eyes open to allow my vision to help with balance.

With vertigo, it's actually your eyes spinning (which is the main way they diagnose it) as a result of the 'incorrect' message from the ears, and YOU feel reasonable stable, but it feels like the floor's suddenly tilted, or feels like. the wall has given way while you haven't moved. There's also a desperate desire to keep your eyes closed because the world keeps spinning.

I've had quite a bit of giddiness with the withdrawal, but zero vertigo; I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference if I hadn't had them both.

Turning over in bed was my biggest problem with vertigo. (I fell out a few times, too.)

I haven't had vertigo now for a few years, so perhaps mine is stable enough to not be triggered by the withdrawal. Have a think next time it's happening what's going on with your vision - I didn't realize my eyes were spinning until I read about it.

Not sure why an ent specialist would say there's no treatment, because mine fixed me for 12 months at one stage. They trigger the vergtigo repeated times (a fun experience) then you must stay upright for up to two full days, not bending over, and sleeping sitting upright (a further fun experience - I got into bed up against the wall and my husband packed pillows and stuff around me so I didn't slide).

http://www.mayoclini... ... -and-drugs

I THINK meniere's is more complicated, and don't know if the vertigo involved is temporarily curable the way plain vertigo is, or even if it's caused by the same thing, so may be barking up the wrong tree.

I feel for you, the tinnitus and floatiness is bad enough, I can't imagine having vertigo on top of it; just the thought turns my stomach.

take care,

Maureen.

it's because of the meniere's....or so I was told, and nothing they did to try to "fix" or make the vertigo go away worked.

its obvious what you went through is way different then what I am going through.

Yes, I looked up Meniere's on the Mayo Clinic site, which is excellent, and although the 'vertigo' IS actually the same 'feeling' it's not caused by the little bits of the inner ear detaching, floating around and causing the balance problems (which is why the upright for 48 hours - they're trying to get the 'little bits' to stick to the bottom of the canal rather than float around), but with meniere's its the nerve, apparently.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, because as I said, the giddiness I've had with the withdrawals have not been a patch on the vertigo, when there were days when I could not actually stand upright for most of the day without falling over. '... and she hasn't even started drinking yet ... ' was a common refrain amongst my extended family.

take care, Maureen.
