Hello,

I want to make sure I'm taking a therapeutic dosage of Omegas to help with depression and anxiety.  I referenced the ebook, but I'm still confused based on the label of the supplement I have.  It's "Vegan Omega DHAx".  Here's what the label says:

Omega DHAx 1000mg

Total Omega-3 Fatty Acids 350mg

Algal DHA 350mg

Sunflower Phospholipids 110mg

Total Omega-6 Fatty Acids 25mg

Algal Astaxanthin 2500 mcg

Does that make any sense to anyone?

Thank you!

Ok, Omega 3 DHAx is an omega 3 supplement with added astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a safe strong antioxidant with a strength close to that of vitamin C and N-Acetylcysteine.

This product contains a total of 350 mg of Omega 3 in the form of DHA. This is a very low concentration. There are three types of Omega 3: DHA, EPA and ALA. Normally we recommend 2000 mg of total combined DHA and EPA.

Phospholipids are a supplement often used for general heath benefits.

Omega 6 has been of little benefit to most members during withdrawal but it won't hurt.

Astaxanthin is a very good oxidizer for withdrawal. The normal dose is 6 mg once or twice a day. Your product is 2.5 mg.

O hope this helps and if you have any further questions let me know.

Thanks for explaining all of that, fishinghat!  I need to look for a better supplement.  My brain needs all the help it can get with Cymbalta brain fog.

I was reading the ebook, which recommends 2000mg of EPA/DHA.  I'm taking Life Extension Mega EPA/DHA currently.  The label says:

Fish Oil Concentrate:  2000 mg

Yielding EPA 720mg

DHA 480mg

Does this mean I'm only getting 1200mg, and I need to bump up the dose?

Thank you.

2000 mg is the optimum but it is hard to find a product that is a total of 2000 mg of epa/dha. In fact you are using the same brand that I used for a while. The 2000 mg is based on medical research where the researchers make up various blends of ala/epa/dha to see what had the best effect. That doesn't mean that blend actually exists on the open market unluckily.

Also a item to note that values of 3000 mg or more total Omega 3 can cause erratic heartbeats in those with a history of cardiac arrhythmias. That side effect has not been linked to any significant health effects as far as I can find.

The importance here is that is a balanced measure of EPA and DHA being 2/3 and 1/3 respectively. So that much is right.

That dose will undoubtedly be made up of 2 capsules, so taking 3 will give you 1800mg which will be better.

Thank you both.  I'm going to try increasing to 3 capsules per day.
