I'm taking a chance and reaching out there - does anyone else have issues with their Thyroid?  This is a new deal for me - and sadly the challenge of regulating my thyroid coincides with my withdrawal.

Within the last year we found that my thyroid was underactive.  They placed me on 25 mg of levothyrozine (I'm not sure my spelling is perfect here...haha).  Three months ago they increased it to 50mg because I was still low.  Yesterday the doctor reports it's now on the high side of normal - so they called in a prescription to increase the dose to 75mg.

This makes no sense to me.  I admit I ended up having a bit of tantrum on the nurse's voicemail refusing to take the increase until she could explain to me why and how it would help.

My doctor has no taken the stance that my "side effects" aren't withdrawal at all from the Cymbalta - but from the thyroid.  Nope - she offered nothing to help with this at all.

I'm just curious if anyone here has thyroid issues.  I welcome thoughts and comments of any kind!

Well, I searched the forum archives.... here's what I found...

Someone started a topic on thyroid issues, back in 2012...
https://www.cymbalta...lta/?hl=thyroid

MichB posted about thyroid issues recently

ThisMoment mentioned getting thyroid checked earlier this month

Tria posted on this back in June

I'm not having any success finding research articles on this ... maybe FishingHat can help out here ...

heheh ... just go to the home/main page for this site ... in the upper right hand corner there's a white "search box" ... type in the word or phrase you're looking for ... and voila ... the search function pulls up a list of all the threads in which that word/words are used .... click on the links to each thread, and you'll be shown the word/words highlighted in yellow ...

That magic is all thanks to Ken, the designer/administrator/webmaster of this site ...

Come to think of it my thyroid levels have been screwed up for the past 18 months. A coincidence maybe? I've been sent to an endocrinologist and my brand name Synthyroid has been changed at least 4 times. I don't know but I'd just bet that the Cymbalta poison has had something to do with it. I'm off the bad drug 4 months now. Time will tell I guess. All I can do is take it one day at a time. Doing the best that I can. Prayers for you from TheEquusWoman♥

Well first of all only 0.4% of those reporting side efects to the FDA reported hypothyroidism. Thats pretty low.

While I couldn't find any medical research articles directly on point there is ample literature that during periods of very high stress (eg Cymbalta withdrawal) the TSH values can raise dramatically only to return to normal afdter the stress is removed. The t3 and t4 levels should be taken if the TSH elevates. If the t3 and t4 levels are fine then the TSH levels should be monitored. I know this happened to me during the withdrawal. You will find posted related to that around March of 2013.  I remember someone else at that time had a similar experience with TSH also.

Thanks FH!

It's fascinating ... in a disturbing way.

I left another message stating I would like an explanation on the medication change and I'd be more than happy to come into the office (especially since I'm a raging you-know-what today and am physically a bit of a mess).

She's holding firm of her "This can't be Cymbalta withdrawal" stance.  Two can play.

Here is a couple research articles that document that stress reduces TSH. Maybe you can teach your dr about it. lol

Hey Amy There is two new sets of recent research linking levothyrozine to oxidative stress and a significant increase in lung cancer.

The first two links are the articles and the last one is an overview that sort of puts it in laymen's language.
