I am currently on Cymbalta after many years of other drugs including Zoloft, Wellbutrin and Effexor. I had a terrible experience coming off of Effexor that resulted only in my going back on, then changing to Cymbalta. I feel, at this point, that the drugs are causing as many problems as the initial depression did, and am looking at the possibility of coming off but am living this year in rural Italy and need some real support in considering this possibility and its consequences.

I think we've all been there. My thought: 20 to zero is a huge drop, and if it were me, I"d go back on a very low dose right away -- say 5 to 10 mg. That access to feelings you describe (crying) feels good to me at first but it gets bad. For me. That's me. Best of luck. There's no shame in going back a few steps, and no shame in proceeding and then going back a few steps if you feel the need. Just don't forget, if you get really anxious, really depressed, that it's the withdrawal. And the problem with the withdrawal effects is that it's very hard to feel certain that it's the drug reaction, not reality. My thoughts. Just keep coming back.

I am currently weaning off Cymbalta and while I have fabulous friends to talk to...I would like to go through this process with others who have done the same

Thank you Queen Timely!
I think I will monitor myself over the weekend and then speak to my doctor. He has been really great so far and the drop from 20mg to nothing was his idea. He said that Cymbalta at 20mg is barely above a placebo so we'll see. I am a very impulsive person though and the kind of girl who wants things and wants them now! So basically the fact that I am not 100% cured and feeling amazing after 4 days is definitely upsetting me but I am really trying to be patient, ya know. Thanks so much for your thoughts and kind words.

I also did some research on Dopamine levels and healthy ways to increase them without anti-depressants. This article was a bit helpful http://www.integrati...t/dopamine.html --- Exercise is going to be the #1 help, I know it, but I don't always have the energy or will to do it...

Hi, it is common for people to feel the worst of wdl effects from day 4-6 onwards so that is obviously what is affecting your mood.

As far as drs knowledge of a/d withdrawal - as good as your dr is (mine is great), it seems that very few fully understand what people go through. Studies, funded by drug companies, just don't run for long enough for the true wdl effects to show up. So... please be aware of that and be guided by your body. Also, if it is suggested that you do the 'every other day' thing, please don't! It never works. It is better to stay on a stable dose for while before decreasing.

Good luck
Junior
