Hi everyone - About a year ago I switched from Prozac 20 mg to Cymbalta 30 mg.  I've always be sensitive to psychotropic drugs, so I've been lucky not to have to take large dosages.  I made the switch because life circumstances called for something a bit "stronger" than Prozac.  At this point, life has normalized and the Cymbalta just seems like too much - I don't need the norepinephrine kick, so I've been feeling nervous, racing mind, etc.  I've already decreased to 20 mg, which went okay and my psych and I hoped that maybe that would be a workable dose.  It's not.  Still feeling strung out during the day, nervousness, hard to concentrate, etc.  Not depressed, but I really can't operate like this.  I've decided to stick with the 20 mg for a couple of more weeks and then begin a slow taper.  A couple of questions.  I've read that many people taper by 10% increments.  How long do you maintain the 10% decrease before tapering another 10%?  Also, I'd like to weigh the capsule contents rather than count the beads.  Can anyone suggest what kind of scales to use and where to purchase them?

I'm grateful to have found this community.  I went through an Effexor withdrawal cold turkey several years ago and it was hell.  I'm relieved to hear success stories and to know that there is another way.  My psychiatrist has suggested that I quit cold turkey and start up Prozac immediately.  And as much as I trust him, I know that won't work if I'm going to hold down my demanding job.  I'll be working with him during this process, but I think that you have to have taken this drug to really understand the challenges of weaning off of it.

Thanks!

HI Jima,

I am not sure about the scales. I was on Cymbalta for 3.5 years and I am an RN. I have done the bead count. Its doable. I sitll had symptoms but not as severe as when I tried the cold turkey. I was incapacitated!!.  Although I am still suffering some. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The few moments of clarity I do have let me know that I am in here somewhere! Good luck

Hi jima

I don't know where you would get a scale sensitive enough to weigh such a small amount.

I just counted the beads in a capsule and tried reducing by 1 mg a day. That turned out to be too fast as I had side effects.

Reducing by 5 beads a day is probably has the least number of side effects from 30mg. Only problem is that 30mg capsules can have 180 beads, 200 beads or 280 beads. Not sure why they are different.

You should look up the essential supplements we suggest and get a head start on that before reducing anymore. Drinking lots of water helps too.

Take care

Thanks very much. Sounds like the bead count might be less complicated. I'm at 20 mg now and have been for two weeks, down from 30 mg. I'll need to find out how many beads are in a 20 mg. I'm going to wait another week or two to let things settle, then start the decrease. I appreciate your support.

Hello All,

I am just getting prepared to begin this journey and it scares me, especially after reading some horror stories.  I am starting from 120mg going completely off the drug.  I can not deal with the sweating anymore.  I have been on Cymbalta since approximately 2008 or 2009.  I have the feeling I am going to have a tough time.  My physician has me decreasing my Cymbalta in a way that does not seem doable to me but I will try it.  Starting on Monday (5/20/13).  I am currently taking 120 mg as I stated before so on Monday I start taking 90 mg for 1week, 60 mg for 1 week, 30 mg for 1 week and then completely stop!  I read the suggestions for the supplements, lots of water, fruit, and veggies.  Are there any other suggestions anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated.  I will keep everyone updated on my journey!

Hello Ladyq

If you have any Cymptoms when you drop from 120 to 90mg then your doctor's plan will be too fast.

I would suggest that you check out the essential supplements we have found that help and for the updated withdrawal info from Eli Lilly check out this link

If you have any other questions, ask away. We are here for you.

Take care
