I am new here, but, need to find some help. I've been on 60mg of Cymbalta for a few years after a battle with bone cancer. The past few weeks, my mouth feels and tastes really bad, everything tastes really bad, even water. Been to dentist and doctors with no help. I'm thinking of weaning myself off Cymbalta as I lost my job and don't have insurance right now. I have been able to pay for my Cymbalta, thanks to goodrx.com. I want to start weaning soon, I can't stand this any longer.

Hi bjc, welcome! Congratulations on beating cancer !!  And congrats on deciding to get off the Cymbalta! :)

I'm sorry that you've lost your job and your insurance. That's how I ended up quitting Cymbalta as well. The no job part is a bummer, but I assure you that I'm thrilled it caused me to finally get off the poison!

A couple of questions. What dose are you on? Is it the brand or the generic?

And, I hope you're planning to use the bead counting, and a slow taper, method to get off it ...

Please don't go cold turkey. That's what I did (I didn't know any better at the time), and it was a lousy, hard way to go. Several of us here did the CT route, and we made it but we don't recommend it to anyone! :(

The bad taste in the mouth is an interesting symptom ... I didn't know anything about it, but I just did a bit of searching and found comments on some other websites that it has been reported as a Cymbalta/duloxetine side effect ... one of the rarer ones ... I'll see if I can find a research or other substantive article and will post it here.

Two of our resident geniuses, Fishinghat and ThisMoment also do a ton of research. Perhaps they has something "stashed" away on this. They'll be checking in later today I'm sure ...

Of 45,000 plus reporting side effects only 0.68% reported a metallic taste in the mouth. Truly rare. I wonder if it is one of the new generics BJC?

Thanks for the quick replies. I take 60mg a day. It is the generic made by Citron. The goodrx.com website had it for $58 today.
I also take some other drugs for blood pressure and bph. Cymbalta is the only drug I take that has dry mouth as a side effect and I just Walt to get off it. I am ting the bead method, I am going to take 3,6,9 etc beads out each day and see what happens.

Had a very bad experience while undergoing Cymbalta withdrawal that I wanted to share.

To echo what FiveNotions said, please PLEASE go VERY slowly while weaning off the Cymbalta. Take a look at the thread I started called "Rage" to know what terrible side effects one can have if you go too quickly. I was only on 30 mg and I had those symptoms, so just use extreme caution.
